Unlike the iPhone 3GS, the iPad doesn't have built-in stocks, weather, voice memo, clock, calculator, or compass apps. It does, however, have the brand new iPad App Store, and yeah... there are apps for all that!

Check out our picks after the break!

Bloomberg for iPad [Free - iTunes link] offers not just stocks but news, company info, price charts, trends, analysis and... you get the idea. It could just be information overload on a 9.7" screen, but that's likely just what you stockies want!

Weather Channel Max [Free - iTunes link] costs nothing (thanks to Toyota) but packs in the weathery-goodness. Full screen, customizable maps, in-motion radar, local, regional, and national video, and more make it not so much of a replacement as a escalation.

Voice memos for iPad [Free - iTunes link] is the "I can't believe it's not butter" of replacement apps. It looks similar to Apple's iPhone Voice Memo app, but it's scaled up to iPad size. Unlimited recording, tagging, pause, levels, timer, and email options make it a great fill in option.

Clock... We haven't found a good replacement for Clock yet. If you know of one that matches the functionality and the grace of the iPhone Clock app, let us know in the comments. And developers -- make a good one, with a great icon. Seriously.

PCalc Lite [Free - iTunes] or PCalc [$9.99 - iTunes link] make the iPhone calculator look anemic by comparison. It includes an optional RPN mode, multiple undo and redo, unit conversions and constants, a couple of themes, and much more in the paid version.

Compass HD + Vector Magnetometer / Gravitometer [Free for now - iTunes link] is an app that, frankly, we may not be smart enough to properly describe. It has absolute mode, north mode, declination mode, and relative modes, and a bunch of different display modes for acceleration visualization. Get it while it's free!

So there you have it, App Store to the rescue! Did we miss any (other than clocks!)? Are there alternatives your like better? Let us know in the comments!

Every week a few of us from team TiPb, bloggers and forum crew alike, will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they're iPhone (or iPod touch) related, they're fair game.

So who's on deck this week and what are our picks? Find out after the break!

Chad's Pick: Need for Speed Underground

Wow. By far the best graphics of any racing game on the iPhone. Easy controls, car customizations and different racing scenarios make this one a winner in my book. It may be a little pricey at $9.99 for some, but I consider this to be the FIRST console-quality game for the iPhone; a must buy for any iPhone gamer! [$9.99 - iTunes link]

Chris' Pick: The Weather Channel

I am currently on vacation at the beach, and have been using The Weather Channel app to keep an eye on the weather. Keeping an eye on rain, heat index, and humidity are useful when planning the day. It's great to get more information that just the temperatures that are provided with the default weather app. [Free - iTunes link]

James' Pick: Tiger Woods PGA Tour

I am a golf fanatic. I love video games. I buy Tiger Woods for my Xbox 360 the day each new version is released. I am completely addicted. I purchased Tiger Woods for the iPhone the day it was released and it is worth every penny. Fluid game play with great graphics. The ability to save a game and continue where you left off. You can even customize your player. Quite possible the perfect game for the iPhone! [$9.99 - iTunes link]

Jeremy's Pick: MMA Torch

Best Mixed Martial Arts application in the App Store. Get all the latest mma news as it's updated daily. [Free - iTunes link]

Leanna's Pick: MYST

Who remembers the best selling game Myst from 1993? Well, now you can spend those hours sifting through clues and solving puzzles all over again! The developers remade Myst for iPhone and the sound and graphics are absolutely stunning. This is a game you don't want to miss! [ $5.99 - iTunes link]

Matt's Pick: MYST

Having been playing this game for the past couple of weeks, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it. Many of you will probably know this game, some of you may not. For those of you who don't , MYST is a complex puzzle game in which you must find a way of a deserted island/world. The footprint of the game is somewhat large, but worth it (about 720MB.) I really liked the sound the game provided, as they didn't go short on sound design. I rarely felt like there was repetition in sound, which can be a drawback for other games. [$5.99 - iTunes link]

Rene's Pick: Star Defense

I'm not much of a gamer. And I've never played any type of tower defense game before. So when ngmoco asked me to be part of their pre-release press tournament for their latest game, Star Defense, I said "no!" Or I should have, since saying yes likely resulted in exquisitely public humiliation. But here's the thing -- I had a blast playing it. It's gorgeously designed, wonderfully interactively, and joyfully addictive. Even though I got my butt kicked across the Twitterverse in the tournament, now that it's over, I'm going buy the release version just to keep on playing it. [TBA - Website link]

Your Pick?

You're part of team TiPb too, so what's your pick? What app was your absolute fav last week? Let us -- and everyone -- know in the comments!

The Weather Channel Forum Review by cjvitek (For more Forum Reviews, see the TiPb iPhone App Store Forum!

Okay, I am sort of a weather junkie. I didn't used to be, but when I moved to Florida (with hurricanes), and the weather was directly related to my research activities, I became a little but of a junkie. Not as bad as some, but definitely more than most.

That's why I was a little disappointed with the iPhone default weather application. Sure, it gave you temperatures...but what if I wanted more! I tried the Weatherbug program, and that was okay...but I still found myself going to the Weather Underground site often. Then I found The Weather Channel program.

Read on for the review, after the jump!

The Weather Channel program has just about most types of weather information you could want. So let's go through what it offers.

First, you can customize your locations. I don't know if there is a limit to how many locations you can include, but I added five with no problem.

When you access the weather data, the screens are divided into "weather", "explore map", "video", "severe", and "more". They are navigated by hitting tabs at the bottom of the screen. The weather tab is the first you see, and you can get current conditions, hourly, 36 hour, and 10 day reports. The current conditions data includes temperature, cloud cover, "feels like" temperature, wind, humidity, UV index, and visibility. The only thing lacking are the sunrise and sunset times.

The hourly screen reports the anticipated changes on an hour by hour basis. Rather than just settle for a 60% chance of rain, you can determine when it is supposed to rain, and plan your activities accordingly. The 36 hour forecast if just that - what it will be like for the next day and a half. And the 10 day forecast is a long term look at the weather (temperature and precipitation).

The Explore map tab allows you to look at a radar map of the area. However, you are not limited to just radar - you can also look at cloud cover, radar AND clouds, temperature, "feel like" temperature, 24 hour rainfall/snowfall, and UV index. You can include cities, schools, parks, golf courses, or lakes on the map.

The video tab gives you a short (about 2 to 3 minutes) local video forecast - basically what is played on The Weather Channel station on TV. The severe tab gives you any severe weather forecasts, and the "more" tab is a help screen, an about screen, and links you to more videos (worldwide weather).

All in all, a pretty full featured weather program.

I am not sure how it would do with out of the ordinary weather items - hurricane tracking, for example. Presumably a hurricane warning would show up, but I don't know if you would have detailed access to the prediction cones, anticipated landfall, strength data, etc. I am don't know if it shows you the cycle of the moon (I looked last night, but I was tired and now I can't remember). But for a casual weather junkie, or people who just are really looking for detailed information for event planning, this application covers most of the bases. It would also be nice to be able to customize a screen to show the information you want specifically.

Of course, you are still relying on the report of the weather man, but that is another issue entirely.

Pros:

Very complete data set,

easy interface

Cons:

Information can almost be TOO much

Conclusion

All in all, if you want a complete weather program, this is one of the best I have seen. And to top it off, it is free.
