Quick App: TV.com app for iPhone- FULL STREAMING TV!!!! OMGZ!

Well, I was not expecting this, but this app is totally awesome! You can get most of CBS’s networks and LOTS of free content. You can stream many TV shows for free. For example, I watched an episode of CSI: Miami over 3G. It wasn’t the crispest quality, but it was watchable. And, CBS conveniently broke the episode up on to 6 5minute chunks for much more digestible watching on the go. Kudos to CBS fro doing this. Now, NBC, dump Joost and give us Hulu on the iPhone!

Who will buy a 2G iPhone?

Rumors are circulating that Apple will announce a $99 iPhone sans the 3G. I think this is good since most users don’t know the difference between 2G and 3G.

Streaming iTunes to your iPhone rumor

Well, this would be rather sweet should Apple decide to do something like this, but I think it would require a lot of hardware on Apple’s end, and considering as how they can’t do email effectively, I put this one to rest.

20,000 apps in 7 months. Wow. 

If you were the competition, your jaw should be hitting the floor right about now. At this rate, it will be impossible for anyone to catchup with Apple. But then again, I am not sure of the competition needs as many fart apps. I was amazed one of my friends downloaded one the other day. Armageddon is upon us.

Push notification service delayed?

Well, obviously it is, it was supposed to come out in September 2008 if memory serves. However it looks like Apple might be waiting for their new Snow Leopard OS to hit the server market before unleashing thousands of notifications to iPhone users…

iTunes goes DRM free!

Ah, the moment many of us have been waiting for; DRM free songs and music videos on iTunes. Of course, for me this is a little too late. When I had a PSP, this would have been really useful. But now, with the iPhone and iPod Touch, it doesn’t really matter to me anymore. What do you guys think? Are you putting your music and videos on other devices outside of the Apple ecosystem? Look forward to a post very soon about upgrading your library to iTunes+!

Finally, I can download songs over Wi-Fi, 3G and EDGE!

There have been time, albeit not many, but times none-the-less where I wanted to download a song into my iTunes library over the air (OTA). Now, I can with Macworld’s recent announcement of OTA downloads. My biggest issue with this now is that I would prefer to keep my 128kps encoding, 256kps makes the files just too big! Apple, give me an option! So, instead I am working on an Automator workflow to auto-convert my songs when they are synced over.

AT&T making EDGE even slower?

iPhone Nano?

Well, I know many of us which this was real, but I am on the side betting it is not. The major point being that with the smaller screen, developers would have to modify their games to work properly on it. I am all for a $49 or $99 iPhone like the next guy, but my bet is it is not true. This is something they would have brought out for Christmas.

My bet is Macworld will have the new iWork and iLife suites, Snow Leopard and hardware revisions for the iMac and Mac Mini…

MobileMe Updated

Well, call me bitter, but I would not call this much of an update… I had a mail outage the other day for the WHOLE DAY. Oh well. What did they supposedly fix? Maintenance really, and the 10.5.6 update on OS X is the biggy; MobileMe now syncs within a “Minute” of any changes. Cool!

AT&T has just announced that they are selling refurbished iPhone 3G’s for $150. That is a GREAT deal. I had to exchange my first generation iPhone a few times at the Apple store for a refurbished unit and they were always practically brand new. If I was in the market for an iPhone… I would probably buy one!

Optimized Google Search from Safari!

What took so long on this? You can now search from the Google search box in Safari and receive optimized iPhone results. The text is now formatted properly for the iPhone’s screen and is easily readable. Phone numbers and maps now have accessible finger-links for you to tap which will launch the phone and maps apps respectively. Nice

Yes, Apple’s long awaited new headset is here. The part I don’t get is why the volume controls don’t work on the iPhone??? My guess? They will in a future iPhone firmware update.

This is cool! The survey asks what features you would like to have on your iPhone. Dare we say copy/paste? I don’t know how to feel about this survey. It is from AT&T, not Apple. AT&T can’t implement a single feature on the list by themselves… so one has to wonder.

Where is Apple’s push notification service?

This was rumored to come out in September from Apple, but has since been delayed. I am personally very excited for this functionality. This is exciting. Perhaps we will get an update sooner rather then later, eh? I wonder what joy Apple will bestow upon us in this update? Seriously though, I think the last update brought some great, much needed, iPod changes. What are you looking forward to?

Safari Tweaked in Latest Firmware Build; Feature Everyone Has Been Waiting For!

Of all the stories this week in Apple iPhone land, this one has to have me the most frustrated. Of all the user requests, Apple sees fit to change the way we search in Safari… not that the current way is broken. Alas, what do I expect from a company that felt compelled to update its calculator to include a scientific one when you rotate the iPhone to landscape… I mean, everyone I know was asking for that one, weren’t you? Really, the list of REAL requests goes on… video recording, Spotlight, MMS, etc…

What is left to unveil?

There are a few products to be unveiled this year that Apple has alluded to that have not appeared yet. One of which is the oft-rumored iTablet. Also, Steve mentioned earlier that no one reads anymore. Yeah Steve, is that like when you said that no one wanted to watch video on their devices, and that the iPod Photo was the way of the future. This is Apple’s last opportunity going into the holiday season. What is coming on September 9th?

Those blueprints look convincing. But heck, I could have made that in Auto-Cad. Ok, I couldn’t have, but someone could. Still, with the iPod Touch being a little thicker, what could that mean? Bigger battery? GPS? I think Apple is on its way to reinvent the PDA. Now, all we need is a good VOIP app. Skype, where are you?

Best Buy= iPhone 3G luv

I like how Apple is expanding its retail outlets beyond the Apple store; some people just don’t have access to one. By Apple expanding their market, they open up a lot of options for exposure. But please, if you have access to an Apple Store, you would be much better off. 

Me thinks that this will help Apple to get to the magical “10 million” by the end of 2008… or was it 40?

Secret iPhone 3G features! DOH!

Rumor has it that developers are “missing” some pieces of the iPhone 2.1.0 firmware in an effort to keep it under wraps. Could this be true? I think so. It is getting harder and harder for Apple to keep stuff secret. I personally can’t wait. Could the biggest surprise be… copy/paste? Hmmm…. 

iPod Nano 4G and Press Event

Man, I think someone is getting fired at Apple. I mean, there are lots of shots coming out these days of the iPod Nano 4G. True, they could be fake, but me thinks they aren’t. Especially with the wide assortment of blueprints and cases on the Internets these days. Will there be a price drop? If I can get a widescreen iPod Nano for 100 bones, I will buy one. What about you?

HTC’s Dream Android phone will be smaller then the iPhone?

I guess anything is possible when you hide a full keyboard and allow it to slide out from under the device. But how THIN will it be? I guess we will have to see when the device launches this fall on T-Mobile. 

iPod Touch GPS and New Nano form factors?

Well, the iPod Touch may not be the missing out on all of the features of the new iPhone, but this is one of them. I really think Apple needs to start marketing the iPod Touch like a PDA, or better yet an iPod with PDA functionality, after all, that is what it is, right?

An the “new” iPod Nano. Is it real? Well, ever since the iPhone 3G had its cases leaked, it is becoming easier to believe. But why go from “fatty” to long and skinny… only Steve knows for sure…

Another week, another Kevin Rose rumor…

Man, I hope this is true. The big thing this week from Kevin is new iTunes 8 functionality. A complete overhaul? What about the “iTunes Unlimited” rumor? I guess we will have to wait till September 8th. Oh, wait, that part is a rumor too.

Safari 4

Wow, this can’t come soon enough. Mobile Safari is great, but imagine it with enhanced speed and functionality. I know the desktop version will be fast, but I wonder what its little cousin on the iPhone will do? Same speed? More options? I am hoping for an more robust RSS experience myself…

NetNewsWire for iPhone

iTablet anyone?

These rumors just won’t die! Though it is hard when patents keep popping up. I for one am excited for this prospect. The interface looks great, but I just don’t know if I would want a netbook (as people are calling them these days, you know, sub-notebooks) or the iTablet design. Heck, if Apple is making it, you can’t go wrong. I think that it “could” be really cool and fill the niche for something bigger than an iPhone yet smaller than a MacBook. The question is, can Apple pull it off?

Tethering option for iPhone

OMGZ, if this would only become true, I would be so happy. I am on-call sometimes and I have to remote in from the road or from somewhere away from my home. The wireless tethering ability would be a life savor. Now only if AT&T does not rape us with some crazy $15 a month tethering plan, I will be OK. How about $5-$10? I know, I am dreaming, but hey, I had to try.

iPhone 2.1 Beta 3

Apple gives its developers a friendly reminder that these beta releases are “confidential” and to not let anything leak per their NDA.

Ahh, who cares, this firmware update is very exciting! The biggest news in this for me is the enhanced GPS functionality. We are getting THIS CLOSE to a real GPS option on the iPhone. The GPS is currently very quirky, and I was hoping that the 2.0.1 firmware update addressed this issue, but alas, I still have spotty My Location and GPS connections. 

Show me the Money!

Can a newcomer to the market (ahem, Apple, Inc.) really create a billion-dollar market place? Steve Jobs sure thinks so. Currently the App Store has revenue of about a million dollars a day… that is darn close to a half-billion. With the robustness of the iPhone OS, I can really foresee Apple leading the market in this endeavor. 

Motorola T505 Handsfree Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone

Tired of using a bluetooth headset while driving? Perhaps paranoid of getting a ticket while driving with your headphones in your ear while you are talking on the phone? If so, then the T505 might be the solution for you! Casey Chan thinks this device rocks. Based on his review, I think I agree. What do you guys think?

Lotus Notes for the iPhone

Ah, I am still waiting for concrete news on GroupWise for the iPhone… but I digress…

This looks like a very viable solution for organizations not using Exchange or a BES. The web interface looks really good and over Wi-Fi or 3G should load very quickly. I think this is a perfect solution without having to “write” any software for the iPhone. Just build an excellent web interface. Novell, are you reading this?

Cut and Paste Concept

I know that Apple says that cut and paste is not a priority, but clearly some of us think so. This example of tapping and holding seems to work well without losing valuable screen realestate. There is another app that does a different spin on copy and paste. What methods do you prefer?

Best Buy to Sell iPhones?

I don’t know if I like this idea. My experience of dealing with Best Buy retail representatives is spotty at best. Is Apple trusting Best Buy to deliver the same superior customer retail experience that people get at an Apple Store? Or, is Apple simply looking to sell more iPhones? Which is the priority? I mean, without selling them in Best Buy, Apple has a hard enough keeping ‘em in stock…
