Apple makes its latest health hire from Sage Bionetworks

Apple has hired Dr. Stephen Friend, the outgoing president of Sage Bionetworks, to aid it in ongoing health-related projects. A former cancer researcher, Friend will likely assist the company in its ResearchKit and CareKit efforts. He will remain a part of Sage Bionetworks as chair of its board of directors.

From Sage Bionetworks:

As chairman of the Board, Dr. Friend will continue to work with Sage at a strategic level while stepping away from responsibility for day to day operations. Dr. Friend has accepted a position with Apple Inc. where he will work on health related projects.

Friend will be replaced in his role as president by Dr. Lara Mangravite.

Sage Bionetworks has previously worked with Apple on health projects, publishing four ResearchKit studies on everything from Parkinson's Disease to melanoma. You can find those studies in the App Store now.
