Facebook Messenger now supports 3D Touch to send messages from your home screen

Facebook has updated its Messenger app, adding support for 3D Touch quick actions on the iPhone 6s. You can also now send message requests to people, without the need to be their Facebook friend or have their phone number.

Here's everything you'll find in Facebook Messenger 52.0:

  • With 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, you can send messages right from your home screen.
  • Reach anyone on Messenger by sending them a message request. You don't need their phone number or to be their Facebook friend to contact them.
  • See snowflakes fall across the screen when you send or receive winter related emojis and stickers.

It should be noted that it's unclear at this time how Facebook is choosing which contacts that appear on the icon quick action pop-up. There also does not seem to be a way to change which people appear.

You can grab this update to Messenger on the App Store.

  • I've been using this feature for past two weeks already (in previous version of Messenger) - I'm not sure why they tout it as a new feature.
  • It was added in the November 6 update.
  • Why they don't include the ability to change the 3 contacts that will appear once you perform the 3D touch on the app its like a useless function i think... Sent from the iMore App
  • Btw where is Ally?
