iPhone 4 promo video

Apple has put their iPhone 4: this changes everything. Again video up on Apple.com and on YouTube. Like previous videos, this one shows the design and engineering process that went into making the iPhone 4 and includes key members of Apple's iPhone executive team talking about the features and thinking that went into it.

It's filled with hyperbole, but it's also filled with terrific little details. Check it out after the break!

100,000,000 iOS devices sold, 5 billion apps downloaded -- WWDC 2010 by the numbers
  1. KingB says:

I thought the Evo 4G on Android was the first one with 'video calling'? In fact Cupertino shouldnt call it video calling as its done through Wifi and hence is not calling, for the moment.

    (smokeshow)

  2. Chris says:

true true very true, maybe the networks aint ready yet and this year is like a testing phase

  3. Dwalls says:

Where's the guy who best friend work for AT&T and that there was no new iPhone coming out, name iPhone HD, or it's coming forsure on the 18th or the guy who buddy work at apple and said that the pics leaked was not the design

  4. Rick says:

The build quality part interests me. I wonder how the glass in this phone stacks up against the previous iPhones and gorilla glass. Would love to let this new phone go 'naked' in a way I never let my 3G go (invisible shield and pixel skin case), but not sure I'll be brave enough especially with glass on both sides.

  5. (Copy of) Dev says:

    Changes everything? Not even close.

When a) it works over cel networks, and b) works with more than one model of one brand of phone, it might be world changing. But now? Not even close. A nice toy, and one I will use when I buy the new phone, but little more.

Apple is publishing the protocol and attempting to get others to adopt it, and, if they really push others to adopt it AND play nicely with those others, I will be the first to give them full credit. Once all phones on all carries can transmit video to and from each other as seamlessly as they do voice, you have a world changer. Not before.

  6. Noodles says:

I serious hope people will not be duped again, Apple was not the first to do video recording with the iphone. KingB, you're correct, it really is not video calling, it can only be done over Wifi. Huge limitation.

  7. Noodles says:

I find it funny that just about all the comments are disabled in the iphone videos on youtube.

  8. Milk says:

    I can't wait !!!!!!!!

  9. Milk says:

Some of you guys need to chill out and realize one truth. Apple is NOT a cel phone carrier, ATT is. So if you've got beef fine have it with ATT, not with the iPhone, this device is the definition of amazing.

  10. cardfan says:

All i can say is wow. I'm not easily impressed. A smartphone veteran you might say. And again..wow. Especially with a jailbreak.

Well done Apple. It goes without saying i'm upgrading. That will be an incredible screen.

  11. Mav says:

It's not about who implemented it first etc. Video calling existed long before iPhone or HTC. It's about how seamless and user-friendly it is, how good is the overall quality and user experience. It remains to be seen but I bet video calling feature on iPhones will be the fist people will actually USE en masse due to the reasons above.

  12. NigeMan says:

the nokia N73 did ok video calling and that unit is around 3years old?? ;) still getting the iphone 4 sick as hell :D

  13. Christinschu says:

agree with Mav. Just as apple didn't invent voice mail, or text messaging, or phone webbrowsing, but rather made them actually usable and popular!

  14. phat7deuce says:

    Mav...I completely agree.

It's hard to tell what's world changing before things take hold, but this certainly looks like it has the chance to do so. I wouldn't say that Apple has been first to do much of anything with the iPhone. There were phones that played music before the iPhone, phones that played video before the iPhone, phones that surfed the web before the iPhone. Apple doesn't necessarily do things first, they just execute them really well and get them in the hands of a lot of people.

Would you say that the original iPhone didn't change EVERYTHING? Of course it did. Because of the iPhone we now have a whole host of well-implemented options in smartphones that we never had before.

Android is being released on a lot of pretty impressive handsets, but none come close to selling the amount of hardware that the iPhone sells. Apple continues to generate unprecedented interest...so this iPhone does indeed CONTINUE to change everything...

  15. icebike says:

agree with Mav. Just as apple didn’t invent voice mail, or text messaging, or phone webbrowsing, but rather made them actually usable and popular!

Oh for pete sake. You forgot the walking on water part! They were popular and usable WAY before Apple did it.

Skype Video is cross platform, and will totally murder Facetime, if Apple dares to let it on the iPhone, (which I predict they won't).

  16. Alex says:

It's basically just how Apple didn't invent the tablet, but they sure as hell (almost) perfected it on it's first go around!

  17. Justin says:

What is the name of the song that is used in this video. Its amazing!! I tried to shazam it but it didnt work :-(

  18. Christinschu says:

icebike you're being ridiculous. I wasn't being overtly fanboyish.

  19. Mav says:

"Skype Video is cross platform, and will totally murder Facetime"

I don't know about that but looking at how things are going with Flash it's more likely that Skype (and others) will think about imlementing Facetime protocol stack to get on with the program.

  20. Schrutefarms says:

    I'm telling y'all. My3g and facetime....

  21. Rob says:

icebike: and people predicted Apple would not allow Opera on the iPhone, or any other web browser, AND OH LOOK THEY ALLOWED THEM!

    Don't try to predict Apple.

  22. chris says:

The funniest thing about complainers is, face it, we're all tech types. We're comenting on a GD blog. This phone is for the masses, the not so techy crowd, but stil can be used with some power for hungrier users....jeeez, its just a phone people. EVO, Nexus One, all great , we have options ya know! But heck, i'll take an all white 32gb on the 24th please.

  23. ipheuria says:

I totally missed the transition from front to back camera until this video. I have to honestly say when the pictures were leaked I knew I wanted this phone but now I WANT this phone so for me the release was all that and a bag of chips Apple flavored. Did you guys notice Grey Powell doing the video of his trip looks like he's doing well and Apple didn't fire him yet LOL

  24. Loz says:

    I agree with Schrutefarms!

  25. Mike says:

I'm so pumped and ready for this phone!! Apple my money is waiting on you!!!

  26. Mark says:

Anyone figure out the name of the second song with the chello?
