WalMart to carry iPhone 4 on June 24th launch day

Just like RadioShack announced a few days ago, CNET is reporting WalMart has now added their name to the list of retailers gearing up to sell Apple's iPhone 4 on the June 24th launch date.

"Walmart said Friday that it will be one of several retail outlets who will have the iPhone 4 on June 24, its first day of availability anywhere. While Walmart has carried previous versions of the iPhone, this is a first that it will be for sale in its stores on the device's official launch day."

This is really not that shocking considering this very company was the first to slash the price on the 16 GB iPhone 3GS. So who is going to head to their local WalMart come June 24th? Sound off in the comments below!

  1. AnotherBrian says:

Friday is the 25th, it looks like pre-orders to home come on the 24th but stores are the 25th.

  2. Dan says:

nice 12 am super walmart here i come

  3. Chris Lopez says:

Ok so I am deciding where should I pick up my iphone...choices are: -radioshack - because I think its more low profile -AT&T by my work -have it delievered to my work or if walmart since they are 24 hrs releases it at midnight I will definitely go there.

  4. James says:

I'm just wondering how many iPhone 4's will be available on launch day. They'll have to have substantially available on release to have anything for all these stores. Don't they usually start off with a good supply for the Apple stores, a smaller number for the AT&T stores, then squat for anyone else?

  5. Klaus says:

Any one know if they will be available unlocked and without a plan??

  6. AnotherBrian says:

Just reserve one and it will be at the store waiting, but yes Apple Stores will definitely have more.

  7. t0m says:

    @Klaus - Really dude?

  8. AnotherBrian says:

I think the only unlocked phones will be in other countries that law requires it to be. There might be a few floating around but I'm sure you will need to be special, and if your asking your probable not special.

  9. RobCal says:

Going to the Shack! selling them my 3g for 100, so i can get the 4 for 95+ tax, which in my area is $103.55! =)

  10. Scooter21 says:

Does that mean Walmart will have it available at Midnight?

  11. ChrisJ says:

@scooter21 - good question. you my friend. i like to know answer to. add me onfacebook

  12. Tom Bouch says:

You can get alot more than $100 for your 3G on Craigslist. $100 doesn't sound like a deal at all.

  13. Jaredkaragen says:

I planned on a FREE upgrade by selling my 3g on C/L for $300 obo, taking $250... That would easily make my upgrade free, possibly with $$$ left over as well.

A used 3g is still worth bank for it's iPod function ;) . Tis the main reason I got an iPhone initially; aside from smartphone capability, it was many times cheaper than buying an iPod touch..... And I only need to carry one device.

  14. Demus says:

Anyone know how much the unlocked off contract iPhone 4 will cost in the uk?

  15. Cfroisland says:

This is really cramping my resale plans, if there is no shortage there won't be any profit to be made.

    @ ChrisJ lol

  16. dartcees says:

BTW I think you have to tax the retail price of the iphone, not the subsidized price.

  17. Dionte says:

I love me some Walmart but I'll never go there for day after thanksgiving sale again or for the release of something like this, they are horrible at handling these situations, in my experience.

  18. d.allen says:

This is great news.. if they sell it at midnight.. I'll be there.

  19. Jerry.1 says:

I'm selling my 3G on eBay so someone else will Pay for my new iPhone

  20. Mom of Naax2 says:

I have some switcheroo magic to work. I have two lines, but only one is eligible for upgrade. So they have to upgrade my line one to the iphone and change the number to mine. My son uses that first line but momma's gotta get her iphone! Priorities! Otherwise I would have to wait till 2011 before the second line( mine) is eligible for upgrade. ;O) As far as I know, WalMart can't do all that.

  21. Gino From The Bronx says:

I'm getting it shipped to my house same way I did with my iPad. No lines, no hassle, no traffic, free same launch day shipping :)

  22. Yanni says:

I would imagine all Apple stores will be packed, same goes for AT&T. I think I will try walmart. I hope not too many people hear about this lol.

  23. James says:

For the Wii, the Walmarts didn't sell them till 7 or 8 in the morning. Even if they were open 24 hours. Plus, they made you line up outside for those 24 hour stores. Sometimes they'd give you a ticket for the Wii, so you didn't have to hang around. I'm assuming it'll be a similar situation for the iPhone 4.

  24. SurferDude says:

I hope I can buy it at full price without contract. I'll just store it safely and use my 3gs until they release an unlock. My grandma works in walmart so I can hopefully get the employee discount.

  25. Art VanBurenBoy says:

    @Another Brian

your 1st post here doesn't make ANY sense. No one said ANYTHING about a Friday release. AppleStore, AT&T store , Radio Schack and Walmart will ALL have it on sale THURSDAY JUNE 24TH.

While Apple/AT&T stores will release it in the morning , I wonder if WallyWorld will release this at midnite ,,,, :?

  26. Art VanBurenBoy says:

    @James.

I bought a Wii on release date and they DID sell them AT midnight of release date. They even provided us a sitting area in lay away to hang out for hours while the lady from the bakery would bring us cookies for free.

  27. thebeerbaron says:

If that is the case, I will def be getting mine shipped to Walmart!!

  28. Art VanBurenBoy says:

    Mom of nax.

Walmart will bd able to start it all up for you. All you'd have to do is when you get home to switch the sims and do an iTunes sync. Then a simple call to AT&T.

  29. Ben says:

Wal-Mart will not be selling at midnight. They won't open the wireless sales until 7am, that's what time Apple stores will open that day to sell! Most of the Apple stores I have been to only open those day's for iPhone sells only. No servicing what so ever.

  30. donnana says:

Ben is correct - I don't believe you'll see midnight i's or 7am openings at Wal-mart, and here's why. Wireless hours coincide with carrier support hours. If a problem arose during activation, and indirect support isn't open, you're screwed (and probably pissed) until they are. Also, you won't be able to buy one outright, and your grandmother's employee discount doesn't work on postpaid service or devices. ;)

  31. Gabriel says:

Walmart is from hell and so is anyone that shops there.

  32. Harry Seaward says:

...and so I anyone named Gabriel.

  33. Zach says:

Does anyone know if the early iPhone upgrade at a higher price will be eligible for the new iPhone?

  34. Joan says:

Wireless won't be open at Walmart until 9:00 a.m. This is a fact.

  35. Jessie says:

I just called my local walmart supercenter and the guy said that they will start selling the iPhone 4 at 8:00 am.
