International lineups persist for iPhone 4

I went by Apple's Canadian Flagship store this week and there was a lineup of about 100 people waiting for iPhone 4. Actually, waiting just to see if there'd be a shipment of iPhone 4 so they could lineup for those. Apple staff said it's been happening every day around 10am. Even some of the smaller stores are seeing dozens of people lining up every morning. Checking with carrier stores it was the same, only they had less stock to begin with. So did the Best Buys and other big boxes. As Apple COO Tim Cook said about the US launch a month earlier, iPhone 4 is selling out as fast as Apple can make and deliver them.

This isn't launch day. This isn't artificial supply constraints. This isn't a product that's only available in Apple Stores. This is a single phone sold in probably more places than any other phone. It's on every carrier, it's in every tele-franchise, it's in every big box.

Or it would be, if they had stock.

Curiously, Apple hasn't put out a press release with post-international launch sales numbers, but we'll keep an eye on next quarter's result.

The phone with the worst antenna and worst call reliability (Jobs admitted that its 1% worts than 3GS) is selling like hotcakes.... take pooh and put an apple logo on it and it will sell

  2. kingb says:

    but its still pooh

  3. Sting7k says:

The antenna on my iPhone 4 is fine, 5 bars right now.

  4. iSkythe says:

Umm even if it is LESS than 1% worse than the 3GS (for every hundred calls), that doesn't mean it's the worst phone ever. 3GS had pretty good reliability (for me at least), an so does my iPhone 4. Don't come here just to be a hater. Plus, maybe you should learn how to spell "poo" ;)

  5. Jorge says:

So you won't buy one, got it.

  6. Jason masters says:

The screen is addictive plus it's just a cool ass looking phone hate it or not you can't deny aesthetics.

  7. Isaac65 says:

DOMESTIC lineups persist! I went over to my local Apple store to swap out my iPhone 4 due to a defect. There were at least 50 people in line to get an iPhone 4. I guess they had just got a shipment or something. I don't know how all those people knew about it.

  8. SCY says:

Sorry kingb, say what you will but tens of millions of consumers aren't will to spend their hard earned money on products that don't function as they should and as the former owner of at least a half dozen blackberries, a couple windows mobiles and an Android I'm very satisfied.

I wish the United States had some for sale.

  11. Erik says:

Just wait until the Verizon iPhone 4 comes out. Rumor is Verizon threw their weight into Apple to make them fix their antenna design.

  12. Simon says:

If you order now an iPhone 4 (in The Netherlands), than you have to wait 8-12 weeks (for new orders there's a shipping time of 8-12 weeks). Orders placed prior to the launch on the 30th of July have a shipping time of about 4-8 weeks.

  13. Stephen says:

I had no problem in Orlando getting a phone. Called local store on a Saturday night and walked out at closing with phone in hand. Only thing I had to wait for was my turn to be helped. People b4 me weren't buying phones. One left with a MacBook and the other an iPad. I'm still however waiting on my free bumper. Two weeks so far for a lil piece of rubber lol.

I saw something about Winnie the Pooh? I LOVE WINNIE THE POOH!!! ^_^

  15. iDavey says:

So I don't get this. In previous post you harp about the iPhone not being sold as hard as the other phones, hence why the other phones "beat" the iPhone.

Yet in this article you tout how this phone is sold in more places than any other phone.

I mean...shouldn't that balance it out? One phone sold in more places than any other phone is being outsold by the phones that aren't sold in more places....

  16. Chobbs11 says:

iPhone 4 = best phone I have ever owned. Antenna issue blown out if proportion! No proximity issue. Fast and beautiful. What more could one ask for? A free case? Ok ya got that too!

  17. Phat7deuce says:

@iDavey - the first article was about the US, this is about Canada and other countries...

    @Kingb - I like Tigger...

  18. brademanuel says:

I've only dropped one call in the four weeks that I've had my phone and it was in the same place that my signal on my iPhone 3GS would also dropout! Thankfully I'm in that spot about once a year! Call quality is much better on my iPhone 4!!!

And @IDavey, I think you missed the point of the article. I can drive 2 miles down the road and find 20 places selling all kinds of phones and only one place selling the iPhone. The ratio places selling iPhone 4 is unbalanced compared to the ratio of every kiosk, retail store, and independent companies selling everyother blackberry or droid phone. 20. Luke W says:

Still nuts in Australia. Mobile network retailers are still waiting on stock and heaps of people are on waiting lists. Big lines at all 8 of our official Apple Stores every morning because you can only buy the iPhone 4 unlocked and outright through Apple themselves. I'm lucky I lined up for 5+ hours on launch night to get mine, or I would be stuck in this mess others are in!

@iskythe I thought 'poo' as in sh*it was a bit too offensive, newbie to this forum. I meant 'pooh' as in 'Winnie the'

It pays to "know" someone... I'm in Australia too, and have a good business relationship with the boss of a local Telstra store... Of the 40 or so they got on launch day, 2 were put aside for us, I was told all the rest were sold before 9am... They just got their second shipment in yesterday, not sure how many tho, but he's put another 4 aside for us, and I'll pick them up on Monday... Lucky us :-)

  24. Tis says:

Won't buy another iPhone, will only buy iPod touches possibly from here on out

  25. TipTop says:

Huge queues outside the brand new store in Covent Garden, London every day. They only allow people in one or two at a time but the rest of the store is open for browsing. Covent Garden is pretty much the only UK outlet where you are guaranteed getting an iPhone 4.

  26. Mr. Copyright says:

I just went today to order my iPhone 32gb black. I have to wait 3-4 weeks to get it :( . I saw it in store though and it's really slick. I love it, can't wait!

  27. Rob says:

It's a brilliant phone! Not antennae prob's here!

  28. killthelights32 says:

Got mine a week ago from the apple store in Calgary (Canada). Got there around 7:30 and there were only two people there. After half hour or so line started to get bigger. Then the employees came out and created the two lines. One for activations and one for outright purchases. I was the only one in purchases. :P

Apple stores here are getting daily shipments of iPhones. Strange how the united states isn't getting as often (from what I've heard)

I did overhear some of the employees saying how there had been lineups every day.

  29. Rich says:

Loads here in the UK, just not at Apple Stores! Got my iPhone 4 two weeks ago from Phones4u. Sign was up saying in stock...

  30. The iPhone 4 is easily the best phone I've ever owned. I only notice the antenna issue when I'm underground or in a tunnel, pretty much only during times of weak signal.

As for selling out everywhere, Apple stores in Hawaii were recording up to two new shipments of iPhone 4's every day and selling out within 2 hours with each shipment. AT&T retailers hadn't gotten shipments since selling out on release day.

  31. Angry Canuck says:

Apple stores are receiving stock. Was told flat out by Apple store employees that 90% of the stock is being sold to the same people every day that line up at 6 am and buy up all the unlocked phones. Apparently there is a group of 6 or 7 middle eastern women that are there every day and all buy 2 unlocked iphone 4's and they all go straight to Kijiji and ebay. Wonder why you can't get a phone? That's why.

  32. iDavey says:

@Phat7deuces that was my mistake, I did forget Rene is a Canadian, lol. Mistake noted.

@brademanuel no, you had it mistaken because Rene did in fact type that the iPhone was sold in more places than any other phone. You should reread the article. Only mistake I made was forgetting Rene is a Canada man. So yeah.
