AWS 3G iPhone 4 coming to Videotron... and T-Mobile USA?

Videotron launched their mobile unit today and along with Nexus One and BlackBerry Bold 9700 they said Apple would announce an AWS 3G (the higher spectrum 3G used by upstarts Wind, Moblicity, and Videotron in Canada, and T-Mobile in the US) "in the coming months".
My usual thinking is that carriers have little if any forward knowledge of Apple's plans, so take this with a Quebec-sized grain of salt.
If Apple wants to have a truly universal GSM/HSPA 3G phone, however, they'll need to enable or add those AWS frequencies at some point.

Whether or not it comes to T-Mob USA, it's good news for people into T-Mob and unlocked phones... so approximately half the blogosphere should be happy, along with no one else. =P
So it will go from a crappy network (AT&T) to an even crappier network. That sure makes sense, Apple would destroy Android if they went with Verizon. Can't wait to be done with AT&T next April and switch to Verizon, I don't own an iPhone because I own an iPod Touch (and am getting the 4G next Tuesday). I own a basic phone from AT&T, Pantech with keyboard, I just use it for talk and text and that's it. I use my iPod for everything else.
Also interesting in light of the Chris Anderson (editor-in-chief of Wired) tweet saying T-Mob was getting the 3GS (not the 4).
i used to have tmobile. best cell phone service i ever had. i'd love to go back. and much better prices. but i wouldn't mind them coming to sprint for a 4g future at reasonable rates.
I love my unlocked iphone on Tmo. I still have my $19.99 unlimited blackberry plan (+ free unlimited tethering) as opposed to what they've got for the iphone on AT&T.
Who uses Videotron?
hope this is true. iphone+Tmo= big hit
I would be good for consumers. lower plans, maybe even a data only plan. That's all I want
What's videotron?
Videotron is the Quebec Canada Cable network provider and they have just started in the "wireless" business not too long ago. They presently do not support the iphone.
I hope it comes to T-Mo or Verizon soon! T-mo will have a much better network than AT&T in a couple of months they will roll out their HSPA+ network! ATT won't have thier's until 2012 or later if that! anything is better than ATT!
iphone on cheaper networks will mean competition for cheaper plans and likely a lowering of high at&t rates. If at&t wasn't so pricey i'd already have an iphone. i don't though. But that's why i'd love it to come to sprint or tmobile.
Bring it on. It's about time. Competition between carriers for iPhone customer is only a good thing.
That would be fantastic!
I'd love to have 3G data speeds, instead of the Edge speeds that I currently have on T-Mobile. But, I hope that doesn't mean I'll lose my ultra-cheap data connection that I currently have. (My bill is only $60/month. With an iPhone I think that's fantastic!)
@sting7k
Vidéotron is a Québec based telecom company. They did provide wireless services in the past via an agreement with Rogers, but it is only today that they started using their own network (AWS 3G).
An AWS iPhone would be excellent news. Kills the AT&T monopoly in the USA and allows the Canadian upstarts their piece of the iPhone action too. Maybe I will go for the next iPhone on WIND when my contract with Rogers expires next year, if this does come to fruition!
@ T-Mobile iPhone User
That would be sweet to be able to use the faster 3G network of T-Mobile on the iPhone but since you're paying $60 a month only on EDGE, $20-$30 more a month isn't so unreasonable when you consider the speed increase. I'm paying $90 a month with AT&T which is not a big deal to me.
Sh!t, I just left Tmobile for AT&T so I could get my i4. Att is way expensive, I'd bounce back to Tmobile in a heart beat, best customer service HANDS DOWN!!!!!
I love At&t never had a problem. As for T-mobile there service sucks here, no one uses it because you cannot get it here and for all you Verizon lovers. I hate them more then you could ever hate At&t!
Someone at Verizon just told my brother that iPhone is coming there in January. How true it is? i have no clue!
Id like to see the iphone go to another carrier to show that its the phone not the service that drops callz
"carriers have little if any forward knowledge of Apple’s plans" ? Come on, if they want to market their products, they have no choice but to negotiate some deals with the Carriers, at least a little but in advance.
I tell you that you can never please anyone! If the Iphone goes to t-mo, that the beginning of the end of the exclusive contract meaning that it will open the door to other providers..... I really hope that it happen At&t is okay just too many dropped calls, my biggest issue. But let the wireless carries wars begin..
What di you mean by "Quebec-sized grain of salt" dumbf*ck..
He meant Quebec-sized!!! As in the size of the province because it's huge!!!
thhwpixatprratezkcbc, mattress topper, JzqHLHY.
Whith a grain of salt I would read The Walt street Journal today....Are they saying Videotron will get the iphone4 or are they Separatists as well.
@ francois : What is the Separation of Quebec comming to do with this anyway ? We are talking about phones here ... Plus, the subject is pretty dead these past months so move on ...
@ everyone else : Personally, seeing how much Apple doesn't care about the antenna bug, I don't think they will release a compatible version soon. If I am true, which I hope not, I would be pretty sad since Videotron has exactly the kind of cell plans I need.
A aws network is much more efficient than others because upload and download use different frequency. So they can offer much more services than providers who are using usual networks. That's why Videotron choose aws frequency
im thinkig in 2011 they shud....at and t just bought tmobile amking the biggest mobile service provider in america annd a russian company just bought wind and now wind is part of the the 5ht biggest mobile company in the worlds....thats a hint hint to appple
