How to unsubscribe from notifications for status updates, photos, pages, and more with Facebook for iOS

Ever comment on someone's Facebook status or photo from your iPhone or iPad only to find the Facebook app incessantly bugging you with notifications every time someone else leaves a comment on that particular status or photo? Worse yet, how about page notifications that you don't even remember commenting on or liking? Luckily, there's a way to put Facebook back in its place with just a few taps!

How to selectively disable Facebook notifications in iOS

  1. Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Find the status or photo that you keep receiving notifications for and tap on it - the easiest way is through the Notifications tab.
  3. Tap on the carat in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Tap on Stop Notifications in the popup menu.

That's all there is to it. You will no longer receive notifications for that specific status, page, photo, or post. Give it a try and then enjoy the peace and tranquility that follows! As always, if you've found cool tricks in the Facebook app that you think are worth mentioning, be sure to let me know in the comments!

THANK YOU!!! I have been going to safari, logging in, going to settings, select desktop site, find the post... So much easier!

That was so helpful!! Annoying when someones Facebook account gets hacked and their account starts mentioning me in stupid statuses.

I usually avoid posting a comment because I didn't want to see notifications for hours afterward. Thanks!

This is way too buried. How about putting this option in the upper right hand corner carrot Facebook? I guess that would be too obvious/easy.

Any thoughts on why the "recent notifications" doesn't show up for me, even though I have many recent (within a few hours) ones? Thanks!

"Recent notifications" does not show up for me as an option (on iphone or ipad), even though I have many....maybe I need to update the Facebook app itself?

Android is my OS of choice...go ahead and try to convert me with this Iphone 5ssss give away...I dare you

I recommend deleting the Facebook app completely and just using the site as a homescreen app from Safari, like the old days (www.facebook.com).
It works exactly like the app does and includes messages all in one place again. Solves the notifications stuff too.

Not really. The web version isn't optimized for mobile the way the app is. It works but not as well. Don't want notifications at all? Just disable them in NC settings. Problem solved.

This is not aimed at people that want to delete facebook. It's aimed at those who just don't want certain notifications.

I guess I should've said the mobile version of the site: https://m.facebook.com/home.php

I can't find anything that doesn't work the same as the app plus you get a full-screen view too. I think it's really worth a look ...but fair point that this wasn't why you wrote the article :)
