A tale of two bigger iPhones

A tale of two bigger iPhones

One of the more popular rumors making the rounds right now is that Apple will release not one but two new, bigger iPhones this year. The first would be the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the second, a 5.5-inch Apple "phablet". These rumors aren't coming from overly sensational, overly outlandish sources,...

RadioShack drops iPhone 5s pricing to $99 or score one for free when trading in an iPhone 4S

Like most things in the technology world, if you wait long enough a good deal is bound to be found eventually. Such is the case with the iPhone 5s as starting Friday, RadioShack is reducing their pricing for the latest iPhone down to $99 in-store with a qualifying two-year plan on AT&T,...

iPhone 6: Six things I'd like to see!

iPhone 6 fantasies will no doubt reach fetishistic levels at some point, but we're far enough out from the fall, and from the inevitable leaks that will come as fall approaches, that many possibilities, many dreams, remain open to us. What with the all the new Android phones at MWC dropping like...

Galaxy S5 or iPhone 5s: Which phone should you get?

Everything you need to know to choose the best phone for you — Galaxy S5 or iPhone 5s! The Galaxy S5 has only just been announced while the iPhone 5s has been available since September 2013. However, until the iPhone 6 launches — presumably in September of 2014 — they'll be the two top phones...
iPhone 5S and HTC One M8

The new HTC One (M8) and the iPhone 5s

If you want an aluminum phone, you've come to the right place. The iPhone is no stranger to metal, of course. (And presumably it'll stay that course with the iPhone 6 later this year.) But today, Android smartphone manufacturer HTC announced its newest flagship with an old name — the HTC One....

iPhone 5c review: 6-months later

Editor's note: The iPhone 5c was released 6 months ago today. Since I've been using the iPhone 5s almost exclusively since then I wanted someone else, someone who's been using the iPhone 5c day in and day out, to write the follow up for Apple's other new phone. Someone perhaps not as steeped in...

iPhone 5c 8GB goes on sale in more countries across Europe

It looks like Apple's latest model in the iPhone 5c line, the 8GB version, is beginning to go on sale in some additional countries today. We've received a tip that it has just this morning gone on sale in the Czech Republic for the first time, while the folks at 9to5Mac have confirmed it has also...
How can Apple avoid another iPhone 5c?

How can Apple avoid another iPhone 5c?

Apple doesn't break out sales numbers for individual iPhone models, but other companies keep an eye on things. And since the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s were introduced last fall, one thing's become clear: the iPhone 5c sales haven't burned up the charts. How can Apple avoid that going forward?...

Touch ID for the iTunes Store is great, when it's not asking for your password

Prior to the launch of the iPhone 5s, I went on record on the iMore Show with my one desire for the then much rumored fingerprint sensor. If it arrived and didn't allow me to buy apps and content from iTunes by touching my finger to it, then I wasn't that interested. Delight then, that Apple took the stage, announced Touch ID, and that we could use it to buy things. Delight, quickly followed by epic frustration.

iPhone 5c review

I've been hearing about a second iPhone for years. Something that would sit below the flagship line and make Apple even more competitive in the mainstream market. I thought it was going to be purely a less-expensive play. The iPhone equivalent of the iPod mini, Mac mini, or iPad mini - that something would be taken away to make it even more accessible. I was wrong. Sometimes it isn't what you take away but what you change or even add. Sometimes accessibility is trumped by appeal. The iPhone 5c, it turns out, wasn't a pure budget play at all. It's play was pure pop.

Yes, it costs less than what Apple typically charges for a new iPhone, but the iPhone 5c is in no way typical. Unlike the new iPhone 5s, on the inside it's the same platform as last year's iPhone 5 with support for slightly more LTE bands and a slightly better FaceTime camera. But on the outside it has new candy-colored shells that perfectly match the new palette presented in iOS 7. Not only does that make the iPhone 5c easier for Apple to manufacturer, it makes it even more interesting to an even wider range of potential customers. Like nano-chromatic iPods before it, it makes the iPhone 5c fun. But does it make it the phone for you?

iPhone 5s vs iPhone 5c vs iPhone 5: FaceTime HD selfie shootout!

Just when you thought the iPhone 5c would be internally, atomically the same as last year's iPhone 5, Apple went and gave it the same FaceTime HD camera boost as the new, flagship iPhone 5s. That means bigger pixels and a back illuminated sensor (BSI) that gets the wires out of the way and - your guessed it! - captured even more photons. The camera itself is still a relatively tame 1.2mp but that's enough - exactly - for 1080p video, and now at 1.9 microns (which is bigger in size, if far, far fewer in number than the rear iSight camera). Tech babble aside, what does that mean for your FaceTime video calls, and your selfies? Let's take a look.

Can't get the color iPhone 5s you want? There's an aftermarket for that!

One of the overriding issues from iPhone 5s launch day was the apparent lack of supply on the gold model. Everyone seemed to want one, few actually managed it – like Mobile Nations' own Kevin Michaluk. Apple did new colors this year for the first time, but while the Space Gray was plentiful, gold was not. But what about red? Or blue? Green, perhaps? If you know where to look, you can find the iPhone 5s color of your dreams – yes, even a gold one. What we have here is one of the very first examples anywhere in the world of a customized iPhone 5s, in a gorgeous and very striking red on black combination.

iPhone 5s Apple case review

The iPhone 5s is the new high-end phone from Apple, finished in silver, space gray, or gold, meant to evoke the premium look of classic jewelry, and the future of cutting edge technology. Enveloping and binding it all together are new cases in 5 common and 1 special edition colors. So do they add to the overall package, or simply distract?

iPhone 5c Apple case review

The iPhone 5c is designed to be mass-market, to be popular, to be colorful, fun, and friendly in the same way as the nano-chromatic iPods of generations past. Part of that pitch is the iPhone 5c case, something as bright and bold as the phone itself. If... a little croc-ishly, non-ishly awkward. 5 phones times 6 cases allows for 30 colorful combinations. So how do they look, how do they work, and which are the best combinations to get?

iPhone 5s on AT&T: Data and voice review

The iPhone 5s is here, along with the new Touch ID fingerprint ID sensor, Apple A7 processor, M7 motion coprocessor, much improved iSight camera, and more LTE data support than ever. The best phone in the world is only as good as the carrier it's connected to, however, so for the last few days I've been testing it on AT&T in the U.S., and in several categories including call clarity, data speeds, tethering capabilities, and more. Does the updated LTE support that Apple is calling UltraFast really make a difference on AT&T? Are their any improvements over last year's iPhone 5, and if so, are they substantial? Let's find out!

Mullti-finger workaround allows Touch ID to accept more than five fingerprints on iPhone 5s

Call it a bug, a loophole, or an un-mentioned feature, but Touch ID on the new iPhone 5s will accept more than five fingerprints. How, you ask, when there are only five slots? The video above demonstrates the method, and we've verified that it does indeed work. Scanning five fingers instead of one will register all those fingerprints into just one slot.

How fast is your iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c data? Show us your speed test results!

The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c support the more LTE bands in more places than ever before. And if you're living in an area without LTE, they also support DC-HSPA+, HSPA+, and EVDO Rev A. That's a lot of alphabet soup acronyms that, if shaken out, spell FAST. But how fast is the new fast? What kind of speeds are we getting from our brand new iPhones? We're running our usual tests now, but we'd love to see what you're getting in your area. So here's what to do:
