Apple rumored to have acquired music editing software developer Redmatica

Word has it that Apple has picked up an Italian developer called Redmatica, which makes Mac music editing software called Keymap Pro, among other products. Last night, Tim Cook mentioned that Apple doesn't tend to be particularly public with its acquisitions, so there's no official confirmation about the buy, but there are some pretty solid documents backing up the rumor from the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority.

The TiPb staff picks their favorite devices, features, stories, and new or majorly updated apps and accessories of 2011!

The TiPb editors, writers, contributors, forum admins and moderators, and podcasters have come together to nominate and select the winners of the 2011 TiPb Editors Choice Awards. Vote now for the photo/video/music app of the year [2011 TiPb Awards]

Instagram went to version 2 and while initial reactions were mixed, popularity didn't seem to suffer one bit. Photogene also went to version 2, making a powerful photo editor even more powerful. Snapseed brings great enhancements and great filters together into one great app.

Apple's iMovie video editor hit the bigger screen, launching as a universal app alongside the iPad 2. 8mm Vintage Camera brought an old school aesthetic to one of the newest shooters on the planet.

GarageBand brought Apple's multitrack music editor to iOS, complete with instruments. Djay let you mix tracks so realistically you'll think you're in an 80s breaking movie. DM1 - The Drum Machine turned your iPad into a vintage drum kit.

Yes, it's odd jumbling all these apps together, but to keep the number of categories sane, we had to it. They all have two things in common, however -- they're all great and you have to pick your favorite. Vote up top and tell us why you voted they way you did in the comments! These are your awards, so get to it!

Apple's GarageBand comes to iPhone

Launched alongside iPad 2, Apple's multitouch version of GarageBand has just been updated as a universal app -- that's right, it now supports iPhone and iPod touch as well. GarageBand for iOS is a re-imagining of Apple's traditional iLife music recording, mixing, and rendering app for their modern mobile platforms.

Apple's SVP of Marketing, Phil Schiller:

GarageBand on iPad has been a big hit and we think customers will love using it on their iPhone or iPod touch,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The innovative Multi-Touch interface combined with Smart Instruments makes it easy to create great sounding music, even if you’ve never studied music or played an instrument before.
