Apple introduced the original iPhone back in 2007, instantly obsoleting every other smartphone on the planet in every way that mattered. Over the next two years, with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, Apple increased functionality while simultaneously lowering price, taking the smartphone fully out of the niche and making it mainstream. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S continued that trend, bringing support for broader carriers and faster speeds, better displays and new, natural language interfaces. iPhone took manufacturing to new levels and the screen to new heights, but most importantly it set the stage for what's coming next - iOS 7 and the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, and more. Before we embark on that brave new future, however, we're going to take a look back. This is the story of Apple's phone. Of Steve Jobs' phone. Of the iPhone. And for many of us, our phone.

Obama administration overrules ITC ban on iPhone 4, iPad 2

Earlier this year the International Trade Commission (ITC) issued a ban on the import of the iPhone 4 and cell-equipped iPad 2 models after ruling that the devices violated a patent held by Samsung. The Obama administration has overruled that decision at the eleventh hour, allowing the Apple devices to continue to be imported. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, issued his ruling on Saturday, citing the best interest of consumers as his rationale for overturning the ban.

Looking back: The 2010 WWDC keynote: iPhone 4, iOS 4, iBooks and more!

Continuing the look back at previous WWDC keynotes as we eagerly await the 2013 conference getting underway, today it's on to 2010. Earlier in the year Apple had launched the iPad, and already shown off version 4.0 of the iPhone OS, but at WWDC iOS was officially termed for the first time. We also got another new iPhone and the launch of iBooks for the iPhone.

iPhone 4 to be available for 50p per day at UK high-street retailer

The iPhone 4 in the UK is about to get a whole lot cheaper. According to Pocket-Lint, beginning May 10 high-street retailer Carphone Warehouse is set to offer the iPhone 4 on contract for £17 per month with a free phone. Or, to put it another way, you'll be able to pick up an iPhone 4 for just 50p per day.

Apple getting aggressive with iPhone 4 in developing markets

In announcing the March quarter's fiscal results, Apple revealed that profits dropped from the year prior. While there are many issues that factor into that, one of the greatest is the iPhone 4. Average selling price for iPhones dropped $23 from the year quarter. Why is that? It's because Apple is getting aggressive with the iPhone 4 in developing markets.

Passcode bypass bug discovered for iOS 6.1.3

Apple recently released iOS 6.1.3 which included a fix for the passcode bypass bug that would allow an unauthorized person to access the Phone app on a locked iPhone. Sprint to discontinue the iPhone 4 in-store, will continue to sell online
