Major iPhone 13 display upgrade limited to the Pro models, says report
What you need to know
- More reports indicate 120Hz displays are coming to iPhone 13.
- Another report confirms this is expected to be for the 'Pro' models only.
- The Elec says the displays will be supplied exclusively by Samsung, per previous reports.
Another new supply chain report says the iPhone 13 'Pro' lineup will be the only ones to feature 120Hz display technology, bringing faster refresh rates and smoother viewing.
According to a new report from The Elec LG is working on plans to boost its output of LTPO OLED displays, as it looks to join Apple's supply chain. The report notes Apple currently uses LTPS OLED panels but plans to bring a big new display upgrade to this year's iPhone:
The report says LG plans to convert its line to LTPO "in the hopes that it will supply them to Apple next year."
The report not only reiterates the rumors we've heard about 120Hz coming to the iPhone this year, it could also indicate Apple's plan to expand it to more of its lineup in the future. With more suppliers entering the supply chain and panels more abundant, it could be that Apple might be able to adopt the tech across the entire lineup, for example with the iPhone 14 in 2022.
LTPO could also enable variable refresh rates on the iPhone for better power management and even an always-on display, currently used by Apple in devices like the Apple Watch Series 6.
