Nodus Access Case III for iPhone: Sleek Wallet Folio

There are a number of leather wallet folios on the market, but this one stands out for its luxurious Italian vegetable-tanned leather and unusual way of securing the phone into the case. There is no plastic or TPU holder inside, rather, the phone attaches with Micro Suction.

The Good

  • High-quality Italian Leather
  • Looks and feels expensive
  • Comes in several colors
  • Holds cards and cash
  • Not too bulky
  • Professional-looking
  • Protective

The Bad

  • Somewhat pricey
  • Only one large card/cash slot

Attractive and functional

Nodus Access Case III: What I like

I've tested quite a few wallet folio style cases, and this one is unusual in ways that will appeal mightily to some people and perhaps not others. I don't mind a TPU or plastic interior phone holder that most folio cases have, but this one doesn't have that at all. What it has instead is a "sticky" strip called Micro Suction. I put the "sticky" in quotes because it isn't sticky like a sticker at all. Rather, this Micro Suction strip is constructed from millions of microscopic suction cups. It holds onto your phone securely but it can be easily removed and replaced repeatedly without leaving any residue. I know this sounds very odd, but it works. I placed my own phone in this case and held the case open and shook it — hard — and my phone stayed securely affixed.

Because there is no phone cradle or any clips inside this folio, there is nothing blocking or covering the Mute switch, Lightning port, buttons, or speakers. The camera cut-out on the back is roomy enough that it won't interfere with photography. Because the Micro Suction strip covers just half of the back of your phone, the case can prop your phone up to watch videos.

The leather itself is high quality Italian vegetable-tanned leather. The interior of the case is microfiber so it won't scratch your phone. This case is on the slimmer side as wallet folios go; there is just a single pocket where you can put a couple of cards and/or some cash. You can choose from four colors: Chestnut Brown, Ebony Black, Dark Teal, or Taupe Grey.

Might be too minimalist for some

Nodus Access Case III: What I don't like

Not everyone is going to like this style. Though the leather does extend well past the edges of the phone, the phone's edges themselves are not covered up. So even if the Micro Suction feels secure enough, and it certainly does to me, some people might not like having the phone's edges free. On the other hand, some people may like to show off the beautifully designed edges. I know I love to look at the gorgeous gold color of my own iPhone XS.

Additionally, unlike most wallet folio cases, this one doesn't have individual slots for multiple cards and cash. There is just one long slot for everything you want to carry. Again, this may be viewed as a positive or negative, depending on individual preference. Note that there is not a magnet or strap to secure the case closed.

Lastly, this isn't a cheap case. It's still significantly cheaper than Apple's wallet folio case, and I don't think the price is unreasonable for the quality, but some people might prefer to pay less for their iPhone case.

Overall great wallet folio

Nodus Access Case III: Bottom line

If you prefer the minimalist approach to your wallet folio case, you'll love the Nodus Access Case III for your new iPhone. With an elegant vegetable-tanned Italian leather exterior, microfiber interior, and Micro Suction strip to hold your iPhone in place securely, this quite an appealing case.
