Facebook 3.1.1 for iPhone... Brings Bug Fixes!
No sooner did Facebook 3.1 [Free - iTunes link] finally bring push notifications to Facebook's iPhone app... then a few bugs popped up. Proving Apple's iTunes App Store can turn around updates with lightning speed when they decide to, an update has already been released to squash those bugs and get everyone updating, friending, event inviting, and otherwise getting social with it as fast and furiously as possible.

Nope still the same can't update pictures yet even tried to reboot phone after update also still no sound on push update just pick up my phone and the update on the screen still love the the app
The Sounds/Vibrate notifications still don't work.
I clicked 'Remove Data' on my sync and re-synced without photos replaced again, and it worked.
I don't know about push sound yet because I haven't received any notifications yet. But it seems from many other people that it still isn't working.
I have a 3Gs and mine is working fine minus the sounds my girlfriends 3G won't update her status still weird

Tried it and then disabled all the new features.
Contact syncing was hit and miss. Some contacts who I don't have on my facebook had pics and links of random people I don't know.
Push only worked when you were logged in, so no logging out. I prefer to log out of my apps when not in use so I still am going to just keep the notifications via email since you can also read the message unlike the push notices from facebook app.
A good start but will wait for updates before I try this again and suggest you all do the same.
Does the Facebook App push notifications have sound?
Mine pops up a notification that tells me to connect to iTunes to enable push. I prefer just to see status updates instead of the "live feed" butthis version forces me to remake that selection every single time I open the application.
I wish there was a way to go back to the old version of the application.
LOVE IT! I was actually expecting this because Myspace sent their notifications update out about 2 weeks ago... maybe a week ago, I lose all track of time.
I have no idea WHAT this fixed. Still goofy contact syncing, still no push notifications sound/vibrate, COMMON!!! This has been in the works for SO long and it still isnt right!!!
No sound! What the hell were they thinking? Badges doesn't work when getting a private message. No way to manually bind a fb account to a contact. You can't delete your posts/comments. To delete messages in inbox/sent you have to do it twice (always? seems so to me). The app is a polished turd.
So 3.1.1 should fix why it incorrectly matched "Adobe Technical Support" with someone on FB named "Ounir Qadi" but failed to match "Rob Arora" with "Rob Arora".
The problem still remains that the address sync does some nasty stuff like replaced everyone's actual home address in my contacts with their FB hometown. So now instead of seeing someone's correct address in Seattle, I see that they live in Germany where they grew up!
I'm going to stick with MyPhone with is much better.
Makes you wonder what morons have been beta testing this.
New update crashes when I hit my own profile button and come back out to 9 icons
nothing is fixed with 3.1.1 for me. every time i try to sync contact it crashes.
ya...smartsync was a GREAT app...i tried to reinstall it and now it wont work!!!! FB really has screwed to pooch on this and needs MASSIVE work. i can handle the goofy contact syncing...not a big deal...but in order for a push notification to be effective i have to know when i recieve it!!!!!!!!
Push notifications are working fine for me with the new update, but not getting any sounds/vibration.
I removed sync and the resynced and still get weird matches. You would think it would match based on email address. I have a sister and a niece with the same last name and first initial and it makes both contacts my sister. Bummer!

Address Book syncing works perfect now...Push Notification sounds still do not work but alerts & badges do which is fine for me b/c I have the sound turned off all of my notifications anyways. All in all great update by Facebook!
I got a big kick out of the incorrect pics associating with my co-workers. Hilarious! I'm keeping them!!!
When I open a picture from live feed I can't access comments/tag options. But if I then enter the persons photos and open the album and find the same picture there is no problem. No sound for me neither but a crashing problem of switching between feed and the icons has been resolved
What exactly does Apple have their software people test when an app is submitted? It takes freakin forever for an app to be approved, and it still doesn't work when it's released.
I don't know how much longer I can hold off on Android...
Contact sync works great. No sound on push notifications but when iPhone is set to vibrate I do get a vibration when a notification comes in.
And my contacts still don't sync properly. No missmatches but some nonmatching.
i uninstalled and reinstalled and now contact sync works perfectly. STILL WANT PUSH NOTIFICATIONS FIXED.
The thing that bugs me the most is that every time I open the app it reminds me that I can sync my contacts, even though I already have!
I did this to keep a little privacy: boxcar (Free), enable push... Sound only. Facebook enable push, badge only.
This seems to work, keep privacy and get notified... But I had to move FB to the main page for full effect

figures as soon as I decide to commit 'web suicide' and cancel my facebook, myspace and twitter, this update comes out...eh...I can't say I regret it though, it is liberating. I recommend it...
They still need a "share" option for when people post links.

Oh, wait until you experience the cluttered crapfest that is the Android Market. Wait until you get the lovely "Sorry, the application (whatever) has terminated unexpectedly" messages. Wait until you try to use an IM app only to find that you get disconnected without warning and lose message. Sorry to say it, but Android has a LONG way to go. It's too flaky now and is being way overhyped.
No, it doesn't. Still some of my contacts have photo and profile link from wrong FB account.
The contact sync put the facebook address into all of my contacts, doubled all of the contacts and only put the picture in the Doubled Contact. When I click remove Data, it doesn't delete the facebook address or pictures. 3.1.1 didn't help the error! What a nightmare!
Most of the time fail to read and update comment. This is the main function. Make this stable. Group wall comments open in a web based user interface. Crash a few times when scrolling the news. Any other reliable FB client?
fb shuts down every 5 min after i downloaded the fb update, how do i fix it!!!
i had a major issue... when i first installed facebook 3.1 everything worked fine, my pictures synced up and everything. the next day i saw that my mobile me wanted to sync 77 changes on my computer. with out thinking i just clicked sync. about an hour later i started to look though my contacts and all of my contact names where still there but with no phone numbers.. so it was a combination of mobileme and facebook sync erased my phone numbers..
Have yet to get a single notification pushed by facebook. I had my friend send me a message and got an email but nothing from the facebook app. Do I have to change some settings with facebook?

I don't get it. 3.1 only brought two new features. How is it that they are BOTH broken??? Apples testers should be ASHAMED. I worked as a bug tester at EA games and let me tell you, when a new feature is added we tested the sh1t out of it! Apple/Facebook FAIL!!!!
For some reason when I get push notifications on my 3gs it'll say someone I don't even know has left me a comment on a picture or a message from someone I have never even heard of... Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck... Please tell me someone else has had this

But syncs wrong contacts and doesn't allow me to fix it. Booooooo
So far, about the same as the previous version. Push works great -- nice touch allowing changing which notifications get pushed. I get the popups, but no sound.
Apple really needs to take a look at the push notification system in general. Prior notifications need to be stored somewhere in case accidently dismissed or discarded. This is a known issue not only with Facebook, but with all push apps in general.
My main issue, which has been around since 3.0, is that whenever I update my status or post a comment, the app locks up for about 30 seconds before crashing altogether. 9 times out of 10, the status update or comment is made, but the app hangs when it finishes, then crashes. Very annoying. I seem to recall 2.0 being quick -- status update, two or three seconds to post, back to app. Let's bring back the stability of the 2.x version while keeping the new fun features of 3.x.

This is worthless. I thought it would just sync with my friends. I have 3000+ contacts from work and it goes out and pulls down pictures for anyone of them that has a facebook account? I don't want pictures of clerks at title companies that closed a deal for us 2 years ago. Many aren't even the right picture and for some firms the same picture came for everyone in that domain. Took almost all day to do it and maybe there were a couple of people I didn't know were on facebook but I keep work and facebook separate for a reason. This should give everyone pause about their profile picture. I'm sure my kids friends would be surprised to find out that their profile pictures are now in my phone or could be if I hadn't deleted them. Additionally, it download profile pictures for people who wanted their profiles private. This is way to broad of an application. it should just sync the contacts in your phone that match your facebook friends.
SO far so good. My only complaint is no sound/vibrate for the notification.
Profile sync has added pics for those I hadnt bother to add one for so thats okay and not changed the ones I pre-set, still dont really see this as a must have feature.
Just need to sort out other bugs and chat. I dont want to be online and no matter how many times I set it to offline it goes back on
im not getting any type notifications at all now...seriously...FAIL FAIL FAIL.
Any notice that the app is more crashy after the "bug fixes" update? I can't open the app without it crashing a couple of seconds later. I'm not the only one. Check out the comment reviews in the app store.
I think that 3.1 actually crashed my iPhone (white apple logo on boot for 90-seconds, then power off -> OS never loaded). Basically, I updated to 3.1 via the iPhone/AppStore. I rebooted the iPhone post update. When I posted a msg, the app froze. I rebooted and went into the FB app again, and the video looked weird - the FB banner text at the top of the screen looked compressed. The app was also frozen. I rebooted again and got the "White Apple of Death."
I suspected that the FB app wrote to some area of memory it wasn't supposed to be able to access. Perhaps there's some bug that occurs if the FB app get a push notification at the same time its posting?
Could be a coincidence, but given how new this idea of allowing 3rd party apps to interface with push notices I'm suspicious.
I'm still in the process of restoring my iPhone, but I did notice that when I posted using the FB app, either text or photos, I would see the post appear on FB via my PC but the iPhone FB would still be spending a good minute doing "something" before it gave me access to the UI again. Seriously, launch, update, post right away, and I've got to wait a minute for some process to finish. Anyone else having this "delay?"

i am having the delay issue too. im having all sorts of stability issues as well as the push notifications not working at all. i really hope this gets resolved asap.
I can no longer update my status. Whenever there's an update of a favorite app I'm always hesitant to do so
This taught me one thing: Don't use new features in an update till all the kinks are worked out.
Is there a way to disable the syncing once you've chose to sync the pictures? Mine didn't work great and I'd like to just go back to the old way but I can't figure out how to turn that feature off.

Another bug I've noticed that is annoying me - I often take screenshots of my phone and upload them to FB. Just recently, the FB app will not recognise any of these screenshots when trying to upload (not just new caps I've taken, but the old ones from months ago which I've already uploaded previously).
the sync worked, but whenever people call the picture just shows up very tiny in the upper right hand corner. Pictures that I have used for contacts usually spread across the whole screen when that person calls. Is there any way to fix this?
Yes this is unfortunate, you would think that with all these complaints that the "push" notifications would be fixed. It is sad to see that it is taking so long, are the teams on this waiting so as not to have had three updates in a week?
I can't update my status at all. I type it in, hit "share" and then it just locks up for about a minute and the FB app just crashes. Has happened every time, so I have to go to safari on my phone to do that.
ever since I downloaded this update it wont sync contacts, no sound notifications, and now it just freezes up all the time. i've tried deleting and reinstalling and still the same problem.
I too am getting notifications that I have messages from random people I don't know, only to find that when I open facebook, I have no messages!! This is on a 3gs
I have the same issue as Andy, with facebook push notifications from random people. Contact sync seems to work just fine for me. I know that free is free, but jeez, this is Facebook we're talking about! you'd think they'd be able to put some additional resources behind this problem
Terrible for a company as large and forward thinking as facebook and the facebook platform...
3.1 was awesome. Push was working great, was getting notifications within a second of someone posting on my wall, comments, messages, etc. Next day I see this 3.1.1 and now it's back to how it was before. Push doesn't work anymore

I have 3.1.1. The push notifications are working great. I get a notification seconds after it shows up on actual Facebook! I'm pretty sure it vibrates but no option for sounds. However, when I push the slider over to sync with my address book, it shuts the app down right away. I've tried reinstalling the app and restarting my phone after and before... still no luck. Same problem. Any ideas?
Major bugs!!
Three times today I needed to delete app and reinstall and it still hasn't correct irritating bug.
When viewing a friend's profile or photo then click "Back" it crashes before making it back to my profile page. Then when I open app again it's not opening on my profile or home page but on the page where it last crashed. Then, to get back once again to my profile page the only way to do it is to again delete app and again install.
Please fix this bugaboo! Fast!

I was running an older version of the facebook app. Just loaded 3.1.1 today, 1/13/10, and now it won't launch. Each time I tap the app to open it, it tries to load, but crashes as soon as the screen is full sized.

The push notifications I receive are from people I don't know and are regarding messages from other people. Somehow I am seeing other peoples info, this is a major privacy issue for facebook. Funny thing is most of the notfications that pop up for me are from Spanish speaking people, I only speak English.
I'm having the same peoblem as Mike! I'm getting all of these push notifications from random people I don't know, and they're all speaking Spanish (I speak English). I really don't understand this at all. Oh, and the sync isn't ENTIRELY working for me. I have the same problem as the last two guys. Most of my pushes are not for me, and are in spanish. I coulda swore there was one early this morning in hewbrew or some kinda other language that I can't read. crazy.
Actually same thing happens when I try to use AIM on my phone as well. Might as well turn off the push function for these two apps.
My FB 3.1 worked just fine a couple of days ago. After updating to the 3.1.1 the app won't launch anymore. It pops out then crashes after reaching full screen. I'm now searching for y old Facebook app but can't find any.I have the 2.1 version and am using it now. It doesn load profile pics and doesn't link to the notification.total Crap! Facebook fix this!!!
I am now getting Facebook push notifications in different languages, from people that are not my friends. I get at least 10 a day and none of them are every really for me. Very frustrating!!
My push notifications work fine, and the contact sync worked well too. But I have a 30 second delay when trying to post a comment. When I attempt to update my status, the app locks up for a good 30 seconds to a minute then crashes. It's been slower in general as well. I always have to delete messages twice and when I go to look at a picture from the live feed, comments are disabled - but if I go to the person's profile and pull up the picture it works fine.. Gotta stomp these bugs out guys...

Funny that I dont see many people with this problem:
Some pages within Facebook cant be loaded. It wont even show up on the search results. I can find the pages on my computer and the search results shows different and more results than if I search for the pages on iPhone. Why is this? Some of my albums on Facebook is not accessible via iPhone, but works on my computer. Why is this?
Everything seems fine for me, apart from the Push notifications from people I don't even know etc. Really annoying - I rarely get Facebook messages because I'm a looser, but now I'm getting loads, but from strangers having weird conversations about tumours...
Maybe I should be grateful, but... I'm not.
Oh and my phone does vibrate when I get them. Not sure if it makes a sound because I'm always at work (in an office) when they arrive so I have my volume very low, if not silent anyway.
Contact Syncronisation seems to have worked fine, but I can't say I've fully vetted my contacts at this point so who knows?
I have the 3g. My facebook app would not let me update my status and would crash everytime I tried commenting on other peoples statuses. I deleted the app to attempt to reinstall it but when I go to the app store it just says "installed" and will not let me reinstall it. So now I don't even have the facebook app on my phone at all. So flipping annoying.
this Facebook has a to many bugs, one of them is that I'm gettin random push notifications, in French, German, chineese of people I don't have on my list or I don't know, they need to fix this cause they are not protecting the users privacy cause you are getting info you don't care, as they get your info, that I supposed they don't care
Facebook has not allowed me to upload a photo from my phone for over a week. My notifications are not showing up all the time either.

The same here. I get loads of notification from unknown people. Major screw up and privacy issue. I'm starting to be worried that my posts are seen by unknown people and even thinking of limiting my Facebook activities because of this. I really hope they're gonna fix this soon as well as the sound notification issue and the poor graphic display of app.
I used to get my notifications off facebook, then it would link me to one of the games I place. Now it will not let me look at my notifications at all. Takes me straight back to the main menu. WTF?
I can't update my own status, I hit share and the app freezes and then shuts down. If I "Like" something the app freezes for about 30 seconds and I can't move the page. syncing facebook friends w contacts is still not working correctly. i have reset my phone and uninstalled/reinstalled the app n it still syncs contacts to facebook people iv never heard of.

I still can't upload pictures. I just get a black screen when I select from my photo album. I know I'm not alone, because i've read similar complaints. It has been over a month, and still no fix for this? Come on.

I have the same problem with random notifications from people I don't know in different languages. Using 3.1.2. It is maddening and happens all day long. I'm thinking of just deleting it off my iPhone.
Began a message this morning on fb app for iPhone 3gs. Running 3.1.2. Cancel message confirm goes back to message thread and hit inbox app closes down then repeat back to message. Cannot get anywhere. Mobile site thru safria working fine. Love the abilty to access thru app
The delay is miserable. Whenever I leave a comment for someone I then put my ipod down and go do something else because it's at least 3 minutes each time.
Also, I have not been able to update my status through my ipod for some time. When I try the app spends the 3 minutes acting as though it's going to work and then suddenly just crashes back to my main ipod screen. When I click on facebook, it's always back where I started, not where I left off before trying to update.
I am unhappy.

I can update my status through my iphone, but it does not show up on the news feed...so unless someone really looks for it or is a stalker, most people won't ever see.

there is no cool features in Iphone. Iphone software sucks cant do anything with it!! And everything opens a new program, Horrible way to make phone apps.
