All Apple A4 SoC devices now Jailbroken untethered on iOS 5.0.1

Famous Chronic Dev-Team member, pod2g, has confirmed that his untethered jailbreak is working on pretty much all devices with an Apple A4 system-on-a-chip running iOS 5.0.1. On top of A4 devices, he's also got an untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 on the AppleTV 2 working.

Just to be clear, these are the devices:

  • iPad (original)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch 4G, 3G
  • iPhone 4

Just like many of you, I'm hoping the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are added to this list sooner rather than later. There's been no mention yet of any exploit supporting A5 devices nor a release date for a jailbreak tool for A4 devices. We will update as soon as we hear something.

  1. Gabriel Rimi says:

Oh God, hoping for the iPad 2 jailbreak to come as soon as possible=(

  2. Carlos Graves says:

So does this mean we can have an untethered jailbreak now or has he not released it yet?

  3. Jesse Elkin says:

It's been 8 months since the release of the iPad 2. Hope we don't have to wait that long / longer for an iPhone 4S JB. I don't even care if it's untethered or not at this. The iPhone is certainly the best out there for numerous reasons but it's getting a little boring without a jailbreak. Not to mention the $ I've spent on Cydia apps and can't use on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

  4. Zuniga77 says:

Hoping that the ipad 2 gets its jailbreak too! Great achivement for pod2g!

  5. ginbill says:

I feel like a child on Christmas eve trying to go to sleep so morning will come faster. ;)

  6. As long as at some point I can jb my iPhone 4S i'll be cool. By the time the jb is released, I'm sure iPad 3 will be right around the corner and it'll be a moot point for me.

  7. Vicdiazz says:

    Release the darn thing already.

So the bugs that aren't tuned can get into the public release? And so you can go ahead and jailbreak it command line then freak out when it doesn't have the pretty GUI? You waited long enough, you can wait a little longer.

      • KidsBeTrollin says:

Why are you trolling every comment. Calm down kid or GTFO

        • Anonymous says:

Haha, I have an account here, I post regular comments, I'm posting in response to this article instead of telling someone to GTFO, and yet I'm the troll.

Maybe you should GTFO...just a thought.

  8. VZWiPhone4 says:

Omg. I dunno if I can wait any longer! Thankful for the tethered jailbreak..... Desperate for the untethered!!!! lol. Awesome work @pod2g!! Sounds corny, but I'm imagining Sam and Frodo standing atop Mt Doom as I read this!!!! Haha

  9. Richard Kirk says:

Is there a typo here? 4.3.3 was jailbroken some time ago wasn't it? Wouldn't 4.4.3 on the Apple TV be the iOS build to be excited about a jailbreak on?

Great news for my iphone 4 though :)

  10. Anonymous says:

I had my iPad 2 jail broken on iOS 4.x with no problem. Untethered and all, I upgraded to ios 5 when it came out because I just didn't use that many jb apps on it, my iPhone is a different story ( can't live with out that being jail broken, been running the tethered jailbreak since the day iOS 5 was released)

So my question for all the people complaining about the lack of iPad jailbreak, why did you update to ios 5 if you knew there was no jailbreak for it?

  11. Radu Tanasescu says:

So... still no link? Nothing? When is this coming out?

    • Yanis Sauvé says:

What I've heard is they're waiting for iOS 5.1 to be released before getting this one out, so Apple cannot patch it immediately. Take this one with a grain of salt... I don't have any connections...

They're probably still are bugs to iron out also...

  12. Gregz0r says:

I'll take a tethered jailbreak for my iPad 2, as it rarely leaves the house, but I've been burnt before when going tethered on my phone, so I'll wait longer for my 4S. My iCade is gathering dust, without being able to play iMame4all.

  13. Anonymous says:

    Yaaaay!!! Bring it on :-)

I do however feel for those who would like to JB their 4S and iPad2 but currently see no evidence to do so.. I hope Pod2g and the rest of the Dev-team continue to work on these A5 devices, because imo I feel there'll always be a need to jailbreak, especially when I get the next gen iPhone 5 or whatever they decide to call it.

  14. West says:

I thought that the iPad 2 had an untethered jailbreak for 4.x but some of the comments here make me wonder if it has been unjailbroken or tethered, all this time. If so, I couldn't be happier that I stayed with my original iPad.

  15. Guest says:

    Release it!!!!!!

  16. n0_id says:
