Apple releases iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch

iOS 4.1 is live, get to iTunes and hit the update button. If you're already on the GM, you'll likely need to hit restore instead of update. If you're jailbroken, you might want to stay clear or you'll lose your Jailbreak.

It's reading as 589.9MB for iPhone 4.

Apple releases iOS 4.1 for iPhone, iPod touch

Installing now, released at about the usual time. I just hope there's some actual Game Center games now, can't wait to start racking up the achievements.

@Scott - if it's the same exact build as the GM, then no reason other than people who got GM on the sly write us and complain "update isn't working for me". :-/

Installed, doesn't look like there are any Game Center games at the moment, clicking on find games just takes you through to a page on the Apple website (feel free to add me, KurtainZ).
The operating system does seem a bit smoother though, seems like they've improved the performance (mine is a 3GS).

Can anyone provide the build number of the released version? I just want to make sure it's the same as the GM (8B117). Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I'd appreciate comments from anyone running 4.1 on an iPhone 3G. I'm a bit cautious about upgrading from iOS 3.x, but I'd sure like to have the folders feature. Thanks for any advice, Scott

Does anyone know when the JB for 4.1 will come up? I mean, those people could have worked with the 4.1 GM to find a exploit or something... so maybe the JB should come very fast now?

just updated, wish there were some games to try out Game Center with, but anyway anyone who wants to add me can name= AnglSprtn

I am downloading for the iPhone 3G, on my fourth try now but every time it downloads, it tells me that the download has been corrupted :/

Can I download iTunes to a fresh PC and update to 4.1 from 4.0.2 to it? I don't want to lose any of my the content that I had synced on my home PC.

with GM release:
prox sensor fixed
BT seems better
microcell issue with garble sound seems fixed
seems quicker in some apps

Calendar colors have changed with 4.1. Downloaded 4.1 to my 3GS with no problem but don't want the purple and peach colors that are now on the calendar. Anyone know how to change the colors?

Thanks for all the "downloading now!" comments! Very useful indeed, and so VERY interesting to read!
Installed 4.1 on my 3GS. First observation: Seems to run smoother than 4.02. And a tick faster. BT fix, forward an backward work now with my BT Stereo headset. Critical software (e.g. Navigon) works. Will report back, if there are any issues.

Thanks cap_cgn but I don't have a mac or iCal. I'm running iTunes on a PC and sync my iPhone calendar wirelessly with Outlook Exchange server.

Just in from musclenerd :
Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left...keep away from 4.1 for now!)

Good to hear performance improvements on 3GS! It got horrible after going to iOS4! I hope it helps on the ip4 as well since I can notice the lag sometimes.

Is there a reason why the update isn't showing up for me? I'm being told 4.0.2 is the current software every time I check for an update.

If You can't see update 4.1, then go in iTunes -> Help -> Check updates, and force to find iTunes find fresh update. It works for me.
First impression - my 3G works much faster :-)

@cap_cgn Thanks for the info on your update. I'm updating now with fingers crossed that all goes well. Looking for to try-out Bluetooth and see how Navigon & Pandora works with v4.1

I have checked a couple times throughout the day and have yet to see any update available. My iPod is on 4.0.2 and is saying fully updated. If the update is UK only it would make sense, bc I live in Maryland.

@Zudy I live in the US, doesn't make sense why the UK would get it first, usually the US gets everything first. I am seeing many people who are saying they got it and I doubt they all live in the UK.

Been trying to update for last 2 hours on my 3rd gen touch, 4.0.2, but is saying 4.0.2 is latest as well. :( I'm in the UK by the way.

Wait a second. It seems like the issue is with 3rd gen iPod's not updating. I live in the US and my 32GB 3rd Gen iPod says 4.0.2 is the latest. Is it only out for iPhone today? Can anyone confirm if they have successfully downloaded 4.1 to their 3rd gen iPod?

Happily updated to 4.1 on my iPhone 4.
Rooting for the jailbreak to come quick. Got mine already updated to 4.0.2 so jailbreaking was a no-no.
Furthermore, @Jamie and Gage, my friend was able to update his 3rd gen touch to 4.1. I live in the Netherlands but that shouldn't make a difference. The only difference is that he updated from pre-iOS4

Hey guys im from the uk. Just did the new update, now my phone blocked itself saying it needs to cool down.
there was a temperature warning with a big yellow triangle, could only make emergency calls,
back to normal now

P.S. add me in gamecenter (alias: Romanov-X), even tho there aren't any games yet (bad move by apple: it's like promising ice cream but only getting the cone :P)

@Zudy, I've been frequenting the blogs, and while it seems like some US customers are getting the updates it looks like a lot of US users aren't.

Just updated iPhone 4 to 4.1 with success. Then on the same machine plugged in an 4th gen Touch and it iTunes says 4.0 is the latest release!
Apple must be delaying rolling it out to Touchs!

It's been an hour and a half and I still don't have the update. Keeps telling me that 4.0.2 is the current update. I also think the problem is centered around iPod Touch 3G's, everyone I've talked to who is having a problem is using an iPod Touch 3G. I can't even get into a live chat with an Apple Expert to ask about this issue.

I live in Wisconsin and I was able to update my iPhone 4. Just fyi in case you're in the US and haven't received your update yet - The itunes screen shows 4.0.2 because I never updated from 4.0.1 but the moment you click on 'Update' it says that the phone will be updated to 4.1. Try it out...

Oi Gage... why shouldnt us brits get it first? I think the mighty product designer who came over from the Uk and dragged them out of the world of slow beige desktop obscurity may have had it written in his contract that his fellow countrymen get the updates first!! ;-)

Gage. Have you clicked the Update button in iTunes? It doesn't always f
Ah up the update bulletin until you press that button. I found that out while waiting like you.

Why did they change the Calendar colors?? Is there any way to change the colors. I sync my iPhone wirelessly with my Outlook calendar. Thanks!
PS - I'm Buffalo NY and didn't have any problems downloading and installing the update around 1:30 est.

The update finally showed up for me, they must have been delaying the iPod Touch version.

Just updated to 4.1 on my 3rd gen touch, and so far it seems great. Glad I didn't lose my 14 hours on final fantasy 1!

when i update to 4.1 theres this messege error 3259 network something
if somebody can help me i appreciate it thanks

3G seems snappier, and the exchange synched calendar no longer displays content, removes it, then re-displays it. but why are my calendar items pink?!

What I dont comprehend is how youre not even a ton far more popular than you may well be now. Youre just so intelligent. You know so drastically about this topic, produced me look at it from so quite a few diverse angles. Its like men and women arent interested unless it has some thing to accomplish with Lady Gaga! Your stuffs great. Continue to retain it up!

Ended up updating when I got home last night. Took forever, and ended up having to restore my phone. (BOO.) After it installed the update, I had to let it sync overnight to replace all of my music, and even then, it didn't re-sync all of my apps, so I had to do that manually. (Grumble) It did the same thing when I upgraded to iOS 4.0.1, though my 3G iPhone never had that problem.
Haven't even had a chance to see if it performs better yet...

I am trying to update my iPod to 4.1 but once the installation begins after download, it tells me that the software is corrupted and cannot be installed ... i Have tried over 20 times now trying different methods. Any help would be appreciated?? :)
