iOS 4.1 and iPhone SDK 4.1 beta released by Apple

Earlier this afternoon Apple released the very first beta for iOS 4.1 along with the software development kit (SDK) to all developers. Unfortunately, there has been no word on what changes have been made within the software from Apple. If you are a developer and notice anything worth a mention, be sure to let us know.

Sound off in the comments below!

Update: what about iOS 4.0.1 and iOS 4.x for iPad? And what's the deal with the new iOS 4.1 signal bars algorithm?

I would like to know if anyone can install like the last few betas if anyone can let me know thanks

dloveprod says:

I guess I might as well install it, I'm still running the 4.0 gm release

jeffnucci says:

I'm downloading it now. I'll be looking at the signal bars and some other things mentioned on various blogs.

Dan says:

rofl the signal bars look retarded even the first one is large

SurferDude says:

"Is Apple waiting for 4.1 to release their so-called fix for the way iPhone 4 displays its bars or will that be rolled into the 4.1 release?"
You mean 4.0.1?

R. Mutt says:

Man, have you seen screebshots oc the new signal bars, they are hot! Who cares if you drop the signal now.

DoubleDown says:

Ummm...? What's up with the last sentence ? It doesn't make sense.

BobbyB says:

I personally don't think this signal bar bull**** is the cause for the issue, it's just a way for apple to cop out of a major issue and not admitting that their phone has an issue. although the antenna issue doesn't bother me, the proximity sensor does, and I hope this has a fix... because this phone is about to hit the wall if i "face dial" another person while on the phone. the phone is great otherwise, but these issues are bothersome!!

Lars says:

Does anyone have a screenshot of the new signal bar?
If this is all Apple does to address the problem (just increase the size of the first bar) - Then they have NO IDEA what kind of bad publicity sh*tstorm they are about to unleash.
You just couldn't write a script this bad. No one could believe a company could be this inept at handling a problem.

MacPedro says:

Apparently this is only for professional (paying) iPhone developers. I am learning iPhone development and haven't paid for an account yet. Only the 4.0 version is visible to me at this time. I don't know if I am a minority developer because I haven't paid yet.

Mav says:

Apple: "To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength. The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see."

Josh says:

Engadget has a picture of the bar changes side by side.

I was more interested in any other bug fixes. That's not even an issue..

AJ says:

Wow those bars are huge!

Jack says:

Any word on camera white balance improvements?

BSmith4832 says:

I'm with @BobbyB - agreed, there is a problem with the signal algorithm - but seriously this is a cop-out on Apple's part. We ALL know that Apple isn't going to release a recall or hardware fix for this phone because their damn ego is way too big to admit they screwed up.
I love you, Apple... but why can't you do right by me when you let me down??
P.S. I've dropped over 30 calls since launch day. Just had my SIM swapped out by AT&T and (obviously) that didn't fix the problem. Apple said the next step would be to swap out my phone... is that really going to cure it, Apple??

BSmith4832 says:

@Jack I'm with you, man! It's atrocious compared to the 3GS. I'm sure Apple won't announce it as an actual change - they'll just slip it in there.

C-Ferg says:

I am lucky and have a great signal where I live. I need the prox sensor fixed. The face dialing is killing me. any news if that beta fixes it??

BobbyB says:

I just hung up on my girl twice by my face, put her on hold, and pressed keys using my face... This is ridiculous, and this is my SECOND iphone4, #3 here I come... Eff this, I just might switch to sprint and that evo thing

naj says:

"Two iPhone 4, side by side, "
obviously, one is not held right :)

Kosta says:

A few changes I've noticed include: the signal bar (both as graphics and algorithm/behavior), Game Center (complete redesign), added camera auto-rotate in landscape

Jay says:

It's funny everyone I know that has a iPhone 4 is having zero issues with them. Also many websites voting polls show that the majority of people aren't having any issues at all. Sorry to those who are. But iPhone 4 is selling like crazy still. Even giving the news of certain issues.

tonymission says:

my face doesn't even register contact with my phone? i just tried to end a call with my face or type a number while on a call... am i missing something?

iPhone developers says:

the sentence which is provided at last was not make any sence
