iOS 4.2 Beta 1 for iPad, iPhone now Available!

iOS 4.2 beta now available

It's a miracle! Developers, the new iOS 4.2">iOS 4.2 beta 1 is now available for iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. We have been skeptical in the past as to when Apple would release iOS 4.2, but now we have a clear road map leading up to a November release. Of course, we could cross our fingers and get it early November... Apple... please?

Here is a quick summary of some of the changes:

  • Wireless printing, so we can shoot docs from our iOS device to a receptive paper printer. (Not word on compatibility requirements yet though).
  • AirPlay, which takes AirTunes to another level with streaming video and pictures, and should let us beam content from iPhone or iPod touch to the new Apple TV. (Perfect to take a movie to friends or family).
  • Find text on web page, finally. In Safari, easily search for and highlight specific words and phrases.

We'll update you with info as find out more.

What do you mean search for words in text?!?!

Glenn says:

Wireless printing is nice, but already have it through print n share app. WiFi sync would be nicer. I believe it's about time. One can only hope.

jasonphil says:

@Buffdaddydeluxe Like the "find" feature on your laptop. Type a word and it will show you where on the page the word is.

Dan says:

Search words in safari:
Like cntrl-f in a full sized browser.

Max Power says:

I'm still running iOS 4.0 on my device. Haven't seen any update worth upgrading to yet.

BuffDaddyDeluxe says:

Don't worry Jason, the new update wont affect the new jailbreak. The new jailbreak is a bootrom exploit and is hardware related. Apple wont be able to patch it with software. Once it's jailbroken, it's jailbroken for life.

Can't wait to see how retina iPhone apps work on the iPad. 2x-be-gone.

dloveprod says:

Wait a minute, the printing only works with certain printers? Fcuk apple I don't wanna have to buy a néw printer.

Xaroc says:

@Dionte Then dont buy a new printer lol
cant expect printers from 3-4 years ago to be able to keep up with standards today.
i doubt apple is doing it just to place to middle finger in everyones faces.

You win the "absurd statement of the day" prize

Jklivin says:

Does anyone know if airplay will allow us to play music from our iOS device to a airport express?

Mortuusestdeus says:

Buffdaddy, you should read @pod2g Twitter updates. The bootrom exploit isn't confirmed. It would be nice but is highly unlikely since apple has worked very hard on securing the bottom. Hence, why we haven't seen a bottom exploit recently.

Mortuusestdeus says:

I despise autocorrect on iPad. Blah

Rene Ritchie says:

Lots of reports of baseband error updating to iOS 4.2 on iPhone. Be advised. We'll update if we hear about a work around.

Why can't just fix present bugs like the damn blue tint on their cameras? It's making that miserable 3.2mp camera on the 3GS more superior than the 4.

jasonphil says:

@BuffDaddyDeluxe Whoa, dude, I read that before and I guess I didn't understand it, but wow, that's awesome. haha In that case, I hope they update as much as possible : D

jasonphil says:

@Mortuusestdeus My bubble has been burst D: Hopefully Something gets out soon.

diyappreview says:

Hope this one doesn't have much compatibility issue with the older iOS devices.
