iOS 5 features: iPhone weather app gets hourly forecasts

iOS 5 weather app hourly forecasts

With iOS 5, the built in iPhone weather app finally gets an update to include hourly forecasts. Previously untouched since its debut in iOS 1 (iPhone OS 1), you can now tap on the daily forecasts and they'll slide down to reveal hour-by-hour breakdowns of upcoming weather.

It's certainly not going to hurt more full-featured weather apps in the app store, and it's nothing as sexy as, for example, adding landscape mode for radar views, but it's nice to see the long-neglected weather app get something at least.

+1 for boring.
Is this honestly the best Apple could do?

Any other weather app with notification feature?

Any other weather app with notification feature?

Bbp says:

No the icon does not update

JNGold says:

Nope. But you will be able to view weather info from the pull down Notification center at any time.

Guacho says:

A 36 hour forescast would be great, that's the one i use the most in the weather channel app..

There appears to be a "location" icon under the graphic. Could this indicate that a dynamic current location may be used, in addition to static cities? I have not seen this feature mentioned anywhere.
Now, if it would show the temperature and conditions in your specific part of San Francisco, where it can vary 20° from one part of the City to the other and have totally different weather, that would be cool!
BTW, those temps have got to be Celsius. Weird either way. And the date appears to be Nov. 6, 2008...

NetMage says:

There's no location icon - there's the Yahoo! Logo (which provides then info) and the i button, same as now.

Look lower in the page dots

The best thing they could do with this "Weather" app is give us the ability to delete its useless a**.

Michael Mazzacane says:

Now if only they'd stop using Yahoo weather, that is the more inaccurate weather service ever created.

Chris says:

Agreed. Yahoo maps sucks as well

Crazy Greg says:

Why bother. I stopped using that app in os 1. Too many websites, and since 3rd party apps, too many very well done apps that Apple's own has long been forgotten. Sorry apple, it's WAY too late!!!

Thank you to all of you and have a Nice day !

BSUNesto says:

While this may not seem sexy, the fact that it does this on it's own means Devs will be able to plug into it. Imagine lockinfo with up to date local weather based on your current location & hour by hour weather that you can access Via the notification tray!

We have already been using an app called RainClock which can show the hourly forecasts. And you don't need any iPhone4 to run it.
