There were a couple of interesting comments on user interface today, one coming from Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, who acknowledged they bet wrong on HTML5, and the other from unnamed sources who suggest Apple is deeply split along Scot Forstall vs Jonathan Ive lines when it comes to skeuomorphic vs more digitally authentic design.

iOS 6 preview: Siri shares to Facebook and Twitter, launches apps for everyone

Facebook for iOS due for a big speed update

Facebook's app for iPhone and iPad tend to get a bad rap, but two anonymous engineers close to the source say that a completely rebuilt version is on the way with a heavy emphasis on speed. The current Facebook app for iOS is written with a lot of HTML5, but the updated one will be made with Objective-C and be released later this summer.

Facebook brings better messaging to Pages Manager and better photo support to Messenger

Facebook Pages Manager has been updated to let you view and reply to messages as well as have a little more control over notification. Facebook Messenger has also been updated and now gives more love to photos and lets you quickly switch between multiple conversations with in-app notifications.

Facebook adds "Find Friends Nearby"

For those for whom Facebook pretty much is the internet, and sharing location with friends is more positive than negative, the social network's new Find Friends Nearby feature is sure to be an impromptu party hit.

TechCrunch got the early word on it, and Facebook engineer Ryan Patterson gave them the background.

I built Find Friends Nearby with another engineer for a hackathon project. While it was originally called ‘Friendshake’, we settled on ‘Find Friends Nearby’ for launch (the URL was a little bit of a homage to the previous iteration).

Facebook opens up Like buttons for mobile apps

Facebook today announced that they're allowing devs to add Like buttons to their apps. Users will have to provide permission for apps to use built-in Like buttons, unlike their web counterparts.
