Untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 shown off

pod2g has shown off an iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.

Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4. This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods. The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).

Hopefully iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners won't have too long to wait, however, as he previously said he'd overcome the cache issues on A5 devices -

AlbumArt on AppSwitcher [Jailbreak]

AlbumArt on AppSwitcher does exactly what the title says - adds album art to your app switcher. I personally like having this functionality because I have a tendency to forget what songs come from what albums. This way I don't have to jump into my iPod app, I can simply bring up my app switcher and look without having to stop what I'm doing.

Once installed from Cydia there's nothing to configure or set up, it should just work. It's available for free and requires iOS 5.0 or higher.

Daily Tip: How to get your music artwork to show up on all tracks of an album when using iTunes Match

If you are like me and spent hours ensuring your album and track artwork is all in order in iTunes only to find that when you subscribed to iTunes Match it all went haywire, you are not alone. I signed up for iTunes Match last week when the international launch went live. I uploaded all of my music only to find that the album artwork showed up fine in album view but only the first track of each album showed any artwork, all of the other tracks had missing artwork.

iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak update

pod2g has updated his blog with the current status of his iPhone 4S jailbreak he's been working on. The good news is he seems to be working extremely hard on this one. The bad news is he seems to have hit a bit of a snag when it comes to the untethered part.

The untether fails right now because I'm having processor cache issues.

I'm close, but I can't figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the Cortex-A9 cache management.

I could sort it out quick, it's a matter of chance.

I'll report you my progress tomorrow.

Vote now for iOS feature of the year [2011 TiPb Awards]

iOS 5 is one of the biggest software updates Apple has ever released for their mobile operating system, with changes almost too many to enumerate (we've tried!).

Siri is the first step in taking the digital assistant out of sci-fi and into reality. iMessage bypasses the exorbitant carrier text charges and brings iOS users, all over the world, one step closer to BBM-like instant messaging. Notification Center finally brings iOS alerts out of the dark ages. Newsstand put most of our newspapers and magazines all in one place. PC-free along with Wi-Fi sync cuts the cord to iTunes and takes us to the iCloud, where all our data gets stored and pushed and backed up. Reminders brings task management to iOS. The camera app is now fast to access and faster to take shots with.

While there will always be features we wish for next time, from message previews to fast text response to themes to a whole lot more, this year, these are your choices.

Vote up top and tell us why you voted they way you did in the comments! These are your awards, so get to it!
