One of the features demoed by Adobe back in October was the Scribble Selection tool which allows you extract part of your image by simply drawing over the the desired area.

Adobe, today, announced the development of Photoshop Touch, a very robust photo editing app for iPad, and Creative Cloud, a cloud service for storing and syncing Adobe project files.

Photoshop Touch looks incredible. Adobe shared a quick demo of it in action (see video below) and, boy, am I impressed. One of its features is the Scribble Selection Tool which makes selecting parts of your image a breeze: just make two separate traces for the inside and outside of your border, and boom, Photoshop Touch automagically selects the border that you want.

This is just the beginning for Photoshop Touch. In the initial release, we’ve laid the foundation – a core set of Photoshop capabilities designed for a tablet such as layers, selection tools, adjustments, and effects. However, we don’t want Photoshop Touch to just be a subset of our desktop imaging features. We’re exploring new ways to be creative and taking advantage of the unique characteristics of a tablet device. The Camera Fill feature does just that, feeding a live stream from your device’s camera right into an active layer or selection.

Adobe also introduced the following five new apps:

Adobe Collage helps creatives capture and refine ideas and concepts by allowing them to combine inspirational images, drawings, text and Creative Suite files into modern, conceptual mood boards.

Adobe Debut allows creative professionals to present designs to clients and stakeholders virtually anywhere, opening tablet-compatible versions of Creative Suite files for convenient and beautiful viewing on the tablet.

Adobe Ideas is an easy-to-master, vector-based tool for drawing, using either a stylus or a finger.

Adobe Kuler makes it easy to generate color themes that can inspire any design project.

Adobe Proto enables the development of interactive wireframes and prototypes for websites and mobile apps on a tablet using gestures and a touch-based interface.

In addition to these six new apps, Adobe also announced Adobe Creative Cloud, which will serve as a hub for viewing, sharing and syncing files and include 20GB of storage.

However, Adobe's goal is to develop Creative Cloud into so much more. They plan to give access to the portfolio of Adobe Creative Suite tools as well as the six Adobe Touch Apps, provide a method of delivering interactive publications on tablets, and create a community of sharing and connecting.

Adobe® Creative Cloud is a major new initiative that radically redefines the content creation process. Adobe Creative Cloud will become the focal point for creativity, where millions can access desktop and tablet applications, use essential creative services, and share their best work.

Each of the six new apps will be available on the iPad in early 2012 for $9.99. The "highly attractive price" for Adobe Creative Cloud will be announced in November.

Marc Edwards of Bjango, and co-host of our Iterate podcast, has put up some pro tips and tricks on exporting iPhone, iPad, and other UI elements from Photoshop.

It’s probably the least interesting part of designing software, usually entailing hours of grinding. Saving images to multiple scales — as required by iOS and other platforms — adds complication to the process. However, there are ways to streamline or automate exporting.

Check out Marc's article, linked below, so you can get your pixel perfect apps and web sites out of Photoshop and into the hands of users.

Adobe has finally released their iPad companion apps for Photoshop. The three apps, which TiPb spoke with Adobe about last month, are Adobe Color Lava, Adobe Eazel and Adobe Nav. The three apps have been developed using the recently released Adobe Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit (SDK) to demonstrate how interaction between Photoshop and tablet devices can work.

“Tablet devices are destined to become part of creative workflows and these companion Photoshop applications are just the first indications of the creativity we can expect from Adobe and our developer community. With our Touch SDK, we are going to see some astonishing new ways to keep Photoshop at the heart of the creative process no matter what the device – desktop computer, Android tablet, BlackBerry PlayBook or iOS device.”

Adobe Color Lava Allows creatives to use their fingertips to mix colors on the iPad. Creating custom color swatches and themes to transfer back into Photoshop. [$2.99 – iTunes Link]

Adobe Eazel Allows digital artists to create rich realistic paintings with their fingertips, and introduces a new kind of interaction between “wet” and “dry” paints. These paintings can then be sent directly to Photoshop CS5 for compositing or for taking the artwork further. [$4.99 – iTunes Link]

Adobe Nav Iincreases workflow efficiency by letting users select and control Photoshop tools using the iPad as the input surface, customize the toolbar, browse and zoom in on up to 200 open Photoshop files, or easily create new files. [$1.99 – iTunes Link]

If any of our readers pick these apps up, let us know in the comments if you find them helpful!

During the Photoshop World 2011 keynote, Adobe showed off a version of its popular PC and Mac application, Photoshop -- running on an iPad. This is a totally different version to the Photoshop Express app which is already available. The new Photoshop app was given a short demo, which showed off the use of layers and a few other new features

There was no mention of when this app will be released or if it will be iPad only (or iPad 2 only due to the power needed to run it) but we will keep you in the loop as soon as we hear. If you want to catch a short video of the app in action, head over to Photography Bay.

Remember that TiPb iPhone and iPad wallpaper contest we had going in our forums? We didn't forget about it, but I don't think we made it exactly clear what we were looking for either. So to kick things off (again), we've picked our first winner, the forum member who submitted the beautiful wallpaper they made above.

Think you can make a killer wallpaper? Jump over to our thread and submit your iPad or iPhone wallpaper for your chance to win. We'll be picking a winner every week. Each winner will have their wallpaper put on the front page of TiPb as well as receive $20.

Remember: we are looking for original works, not photos. It can be based on your own photo but it has to be made into a real, great looking wallpaper. Textures, abstract patterns, stripes, plaid - whatever you think will really make an iPhone or iPad background stand out. You'll need to create these though, not just find one online.

And now for our first winner, CoffeeFaith - for their awesome iPad/iPhone creation you see above. Great job! He's got it posted in all iDevice formats over in our forums, so check it out!

If you guys think you've got some awesome creations, once again hop on over to our Wallpaper Contest Thread!

Adobe has announced that their CS5 suite, the latest version of their industry leading content creation tools like Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, will be launching April 12 (with availability likely to follow at a point that is later).

The big news for iPhone developers is that Flash CS5, as previously reported, will allow ahead-of-time-compiling that should allow for easy (or easier) porting of Flash apps to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

So, if you prefer developing in Flash rather than Xcode and don't mind the lack of interface builder tools, you can stay in Flash and spit out iPhone binaries. (Just please -- please -- make them awesome).

Though not specifically iPhone related, Adobe is providing some sneak previews of other CS5 apps, including one I still don't -- nay, can't -- believe is real: content aware fill for Photoshop (embedded below, but watch it on as big a screen as you can.)

Now if they were to add this to an iPad version of a PhotoShop.com app...

I will admit I am not the biggest fan of Photoshop but I am into all of these compositing apps in the App Store and this new application, Juxtaposer, [iTunes link] is one you can really have some fun with, especially if you like taking pictures of your friends and family and making them look ridiculous.

Along with all of that fun comes ease of use as well:

First, load in any two pictures - perhaps one of your dad, and one of your dog.
Next, use your finger to erase around your dog's head. Quickly zoom in and out or move around using two finger pinching gestures. To cut out your dog's head exactly, first zoom out and make a rough outline, then zoom in, and erase or un-erase with pixel-accuracy. Switch to move mode and use two fingers to move, re-size and rotate your dog's head into place over dad's. It's easy, intuitive and fun, and you'll have a great new Dog-Dad in about a minute.

The app will run you $2.99 but for that price you are getting the best compositing application in the App Store. Period.

Got a hankering to make an spot-on iPhone looking WebApp? Wanna mock-up an App Store application interface of your very own? Thanks to the hyper-generosity of teehan+lax, now you can!

Over the past few months we’ve had to create a few iPhone mock ups for presentations. The problem we’ve encountered is the lack of resources to help us design something efficiently. Up until now we’ve used a nice PSD from 320480.com but we still found ourselves having to build out additional assets or heavily modifying bitmap based buttons and widgets.

Since we know we’ll be doing more of this, we created our own Photoshop file that has a fairly comprehensive library of assets – all fully editable.

The 5MB download is available directly from their site, so if you want it, go get it!

Those Nike+ Pictures we reported a few days back? There's some rumblings that they may be fake. Yes, Apple and Nike are still in cahoots and plan on releasing Nike+ for the iPhone, but the pictures floating around the web are not a production of Apple or Nike but rather some enterprising photoshop expert.

Who knows when we'll get some solid info on Nike+ for iPhone. Hopefully, Apple and Nike are working on creating a great program that includes some of the features we saw in the screenshots like the ability to map out a running route. There currently is no timetable for Nike+ to be released on the iPhone.
