Sprint claims iPhone users consume much less data than other platforms

Speaking during an earnings call on Wednesday, Sprint CEO, Dan Hesse, claimed that iPhones on the Sprint network used much less network resources than users of other smartphone platforms. This is one of the main reasons that Sprint decided to add the iPhone to its portfolio of handsets.

Sprint working to fix slow iPhone 4S data speeds?

Matthew Panzarino of The Next Web reports that Sprint knows about, and is working on, the slow data speeds frustrating many iPhone 4S

Now it seems that an internal email has been sent to Sprint representatives, informing them that Apple and Sprint are working together on a “confirmed nationwide issue” dealing with the slow data rates many users are experiencing. There was no information about what the cause of the issues are or what the expected resolution date might be.

Since the CDMA iPhone 4S is limited to EV-DO rev A speeds, they're going to potentially be much slower than an HSPA 14.4 AT&T iPhone 4S, but they should be equal to the similarly networked Verizon iPhone 4S.

Check out the link below for the details and, if you're on Sprint, let us know how your data is performing.

iPhone 4S data speeds tested on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint

iDB conducted a few speed tests on the new iPhone 4S comparing data performance across AT&T, Verizon and the newcomer, Sprint.

It looks like AT&T and Verizon are just about neck and neck despite the iPhone 4S supporting AT&T's HSPA+ network, with Sprint falling pretty far behind. Keep in mind the comparisons aren't exactly scientific, so your mileage may vary. It also appears that data coverage isn't optimal in the area they shot the video given the speedtest.net results, but this gives you a pretty good idea of how the iPhone 4S performs under the different networks.

Check out the full video below and let us know what speeds your seeing on your new iPhone 4S!

Verizon and Sprint iPhone 4S and the limitations of CDMA

iPhone 4S is the first iPhone to have both Verizon and Sprint CDMA versions available alongside the AT&T GSM version. CDMA is famous for its rock solid reliability and call quality and now that iPhone 4S is a world phone, it can even roam on international GSM network. However, CDMA brings with it some downsides as well, including lack of simultaneous voice and data over 3G, subtle quirks to SMS, and greatly reduced conference call options.

None of these are unique to iPhone 4S on Verizon or Sprint, but they're something to keep in mind if you're thinking of switching to one of those networks now that they have iPhone 4S.

So here's the deal.
