Firaxis backpedals on in-app purchases with new Ace Patrol game, to charge a real price

Firaxis is set to release their newest iOS game from legendary designer Sid Meier, a sequel to this past May's Sid Meier's Ace Patrol. Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies is the new game, and they're taking a different approach with pricing in this go-round, according to Polygon.

Ravenmark: Mercenaries promises deep strategic warfare on iPad

We got a sneak peek at the sequel to the hugely popular warfare strategy game, Ravenmark, at PAX East 2013, and it's looking solid. The main thing in Ravenmark: Mercenariesis asynchronous multiplayer, and that it's going free to play. Loyal Ravenmark players will also get access to an exclusive unit, which is a nice touch.

"Skating to where the puck is going to be" is an old Wayne Gretzky saying that Steve Jobs once quoted, and so it gets rehashed a lot when discussing Apple's strategy for moving into new markets. Typically that's with hardware like iPhone, iPad, or potential hardware like the rumored iWatch, or with features like iTunes, AirPlay or Passbook. It's also an apt way to describe Apple's commercial strategy.

Post iPhone ergo propter iPhone

"Post hoc ergo propter hoc" is Latin for "after it, therefore because of it". That it comes from Latin should indicate how far back that particular fallacy can be traced. Yet ever since Apple launched the original iPhone in 2007, it has been the point of comparison for every flagship phone, from every manufacturer, on every carrier, that's followed. Just like "post hoc ergo propter hoc" isn't often true, "post iPhone ergo propter iPhone" isn't always true. Yet time after time, phone after phone, everything from hardware design to software features is taken as derived from, or as being a response to, the iPhone.
