iLuv Skin Case for iPad - accessory review

The iLuv Skin Case is definitely an extremely thin case. It is made of a soft rubber silicon material that feels extremely smooth to the touch. Some people may be willing to sacrifice a little bit of protection to have a thinner more portable case but in my opinion, this case was more than a little too thin.

If you want something extremely thin and don't plan on transporting your iPad very far in this case, you should be okay. Other than that, this case is more for looks than anything else.

Reckless Racing HD for iPad - app review

If your looking for a fun, simple racer with awesome graphics, then Reckless Racing HD might be for you. Playing this game reminds of RC Pro Am Racing on the original Nintendo, or NES. The premise is simple; beat other racers to win the championship.

The game is played with an overhead isometric view. There are several different control options, but I enjoy the default which is gas and break on the far right and left and right turn arrow on the left, the control is spot on too.

iOS 4.1 security flaw allows calls to be made on passcode locked iPhone

It looks as if there's yet another Phone.app security hole, this time in iOS 4.1 that allows someone to get around a passcode locked iPhone, gain access to the owner's contact list, make calls and send emails to anyone in said contact list.  From MacStories:

"To reproduce the bug, make sure to have a passcode lock turned on and lock your device. In the lockscreen, tap on Emergency Call in the lower left corner. Now type a non-existent emergency number, I tried #946494. Start the call, and as soon as the red button appear hit the sleep button. You’ll be brought to the contact list."

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 via greenpois0n [Jailbreak]

Wondering how to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with greenpois0n? Jailbreakers have a wealth of options when it comes to iOS 4.1.  We've already looked at how to jailbreak iOS 4.1 via limera1n and how to jailbreak via PwnageTool 4.1.  Now we're looking at the Mac version of greenpois0n.  PC users shouldn't have too much difficulty following along with any of these as the steps are generally the same.  It's really up to you what tool you decide to use.  I suggest unlockers use PwnageTool 4.1 though, as it will preserve your baseband for future unlocking.  And as always, we take no responsibility to any damage done to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

This version of greenpois0n will jailbreak the following devices:

  • iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch 4th and 3rd gen
  • iPad (iOS 3.2.2)

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with PwntageTool 4.1 [Jailbreak]

PwnageTool 4.1 was recently released and a lot of jailbreakers have been waiting for this one.  The main difference between some other methods and PwnageTool is that it preserves your baseband in most cases.  Meaning for unlockers, they'll still be able to safely upgrade and keep their unlock.  We've covered how to jailbreak iOS 4.1 via limera1n and how to jailbreak iOS 4.1 via greenpois0n, and now we'll look at how PwnageTool 4.1 differs and walk through this process as well.

PwnageTool 4.1 will jailbreak the following devices:

  • iPhone 4, 3GS, and 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G and 3G
  • iPad
  • Apple TV 2nd Generation

As usual, we take no responsibility for what you may or may not do to your phone.  If you're okay with that, jump through for a regular and video walkthrough!

PlainText for iPad- app review

If you are looking for a simple text editor with a clean, professional interface, PlainText might just be for you. Hog Bay Software has created a quaint little document app that goes out of it's way to do simple editing. The main benefit this app has over the built-in Notes app is that you can define and create folders; the level of editing is the same.

FaceTime between iPhone 4 and Mac [Video]

Right after Apple released FaceTime for Mac beta, Dieter grabbed his iPhone 4 and called me up on my MacBook. The video above shows the results. It worked well and looked good.

FaceTime for Mac is incredibly barebones right now, almost no UI chrome or options but we'll see what happens come release. The ability to stay in contact, visually, from any iOS or Mac OS device is compelling, but it would be even better if Apple released a Windows version. Let's hope that's coming soon.
