Oh, you know I had to do a hands-on and give the iMore Nation a quick look at the glowing Apple logo mod for iPhone and iPhone 4. Despite Ally’s warnings, the moment I saw this luminescent bit of K.O.Gadget awesome go up for sale I knew I had to have it. My own. My precious!

I’ll be doing the mod this weekend, and hopefully electrocuting neither myself nor my precious iPhone in the process, and will have the full video up for you soon. Kevin Michaluk, pinch hitting for our sibling site, PreCentral.net has done the perfunctory HP TouchPad unboxing, and towards the end shows it off against the Apple iPad 2 (and BlackBerry Playbook) by way of comparison. (No, none of that was a typo, Kevin loves all his gadgets now, and you’ll see him with Apples and Androids and HPs and more as the weeks go on.)

We had to unbox the iPhone 4 for you all even though it’s moved beyond “exciting tech blog event” to “necessary ritual.” We left the burning incense out, though, and replaced it with some quick comparisons to the EVO 4G and the Nexus One. Toss in a quick FaceTime video chat and feature discussion and a quick look at the Bumper accessory and you’re looking at an unboxing extravaganza.

You want your iPhone 4 unboxing gadget pr0n early? Well, thanks to YouTube and a couple premature deliveries, it’s here. Now, reportedly Apple’s activation servers aren’t up and running yet, so unboxing is about all that can be done with iPhone 4 for the moment, but who are we to deny even that simple pleasure?

Okay, enough with the unboxings. Fair point. But we iPhone people only get one device a year, so this is our Super Bowl and dagnabit we plan to enjoy it!

ORIGINAL: Looks like someone’s scored the first pictures of an iPhone 3G S, unboxed and in the wild. Pretty much what everyone expected — looks just like the iPhone 3G but has some nifty new software like the Compass App (complete with re-calibration instructions), voice control, etc. but still drool-worthy none the less.

Android Central got their mechanical pincers on a fresh new T-Mobile Android G1 un-boxing today, and what’s the first thing they go and do? Measure it up against an iPhone 3G, of course.

Not that we can blame them. While Android’s rugged R2D2-esque looks might not make for an obvious point of comparison, they are currently the only two devices on the North American market with capacitive touch screens, and both are game-changers when it comes to the mobile platform space.

For good measure, Dieter throws it up against a bunch of other smartphones as well, including the Windows Mobile Wing and Shadow, Blackberry Pearl Flip, Blackberry Bold, the Palm Treo Pro, and the Instinct.

Unfortunately, there’s no OS showdown yet, as the G1 won’t work without a data plan, period. [Digg that!]

Here we are – A gallery of the iPhone 3G in White and some comparisons to the original iPhone 2G. Short version: The iPhone 3G is a bit thicker, a smidge taller, and (most surprisingly) noticeably wider, it feels just as good in the hand because of the curved back. That wider part also means there’s a slight border on the left and right of the screen — but all in all the iPhone 3G is essentially the same slab as the original iPhone.

The plastic backing feels very solid — it’s very hard plastic and though it’s not likely to be as scratch-resistant as the original metal, it’s a damn sight tougher than most smartphone plastic we’ve seen. It is a fingerprint magnet back to front, even in white (though the white hides it better).

The headphone jack is flush (yay) and looks to be well-constructed. Unlike many a smarthphone we’ve used before, there’s no jiggle whatsoever when you plug a headset in. Ok, we’ll say it, the headset jack on Treos would often get busted because the soldier points would fail — that doesn’t look to be a concern here. Also great: Speaker quality and call quality are FAR SUPERIOR to the original iPhone.
