The new iPad has a built-in Camera app that not only lets you shoot 5 megapixel photos, but does a surprisingly good job at recording 1080p video as well. What's more, the built-in Photos app lets you trim your videos right on the iPad. And if you need more powerful editing, complete with titles and transitions, there are a couple of great App Store apps for that!

How to record video

Recording video with your iPad is very simple.

Tap the Camera app on your iPad's home screen

On the bottom right had corner you'll find a toggle to switch between photo and video mode. Tap it to switch it to the right and under the video icon.

To the right of this switch, you'll see the button that switches between the front, FaceTime camera, and the rear, iSight camera.

I recommend holding the iPad with the home button on the right so that your hand doesn't obstruct the view of the camera.

In the middle of the right side of the screen (and right next to the home button) you'll see the record button. Tap this to start recording. Tap it again to end recording.

To watch the video you just recorded, tap the thumbnail in the lower left corner. You can also find the video in your **Camera Roll* in the Photos app.

How to trim a video

Apple has included the basic editing ability of trimming your videos with the iPad. Any other editing will need to be done on a 3rd party app (see below).

Access your video from either your Camera Roll in the Photos app, or from the Camera app by tapping the thumbnail after recording a video.

If you don't see the bar at the top of the screen, tap anywhere (except on the play button)

In the middle of the toolbar at the top of the screen, you'll see a timeline for your video. The curser in the middle indicates which part of the video you're watching (or will watch if you hit play).

Surrounding the timeline is a gray border with ends that have little handles. Tap one of these handles.

The border will turn yellow and you can drag the handles along your timeline.

Hold your finger down on one of the handles to zoom in to the timeline for more precision.

Once you've adjusted your endpoints as desired, tap the play button to the left of the timeline to preview your selection.

When it's exactly how you want, tap Trim in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

You'll then be prompted to select Trim Original or to Save as a New Clip. Tap your choice.

How to edit your videos

If you want to edit, add titles or transitions, or otherwise make your videos even more fantastic before uploading, you can do that right on your iPad with either Apple's iMovie or Avid Studio.

iMovie for iPad and iPhone review

Avid Studio for iPad review

How to share you videos

Once you're done and your videos are perfect, the iPad also makes it really easy to share them in a number of different ways.

If they're in your Camera Roll, you can sync them with iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC, and from there, do anything you want with them.

If you have an Apple TV you can use AirPlay to wirelessly beam them to your big screen HDTV for full on home theater viewing experience.

If you have the Apple HDMI adapter, you can plug your iPad directly into any HDTV or display that has HDMI ports and get the same results.

If you want to share them with the internet world, you can upload your videos directly to YouTube or Facebook with just a few taps.

Now that you've unboxed your new iPad and set up with with iTunes or iCloud you'll probably want to start taking videos with the new and improved camera. The iPad makes it easy to share all your videos with friends and family several ways. We'll guide you through sharing your videos on two of the most popular services - YouTube and Facebook.

The new iPad has a much improved camera -- so much improved you might even find it convenient to take quick, fun videos to share with family and friends on YouTube and Facebook.

Luckily, iOS and iPad apps make this really easy to do.

How to share an iPad video on YouTube

iOS for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch has YouTube integration built right in, which makes sharing videos you take on your new iPad easier than ever.

Tap on your Photos app and select the video you'd like to share.

In the upper right hand corner, click the arrow icon and tap Send to YouTube.

If you aren't already signed into YouTube, you'll be asked to sign in.

Next, fill in all the information about your video from the title to description, tags, and category. You can also choose whether you want to upload the standard definition or high definition version. Most will probably want to tap HD. It will take longer to upload though, so if you're in a hurry, standard definition will do.

Your video will begin uploading to your YouTube account automatically. You can close out your Photos app and continue doing other things on your iPad and it will upload quietly in the background. Once it's done you'll get a pop up notification letting you know the upload was completed successfully.

How to share a video on Facebook

To share a video to Facebook you'll need to have the Facebook for iPad app installed first.

Free - Facebook for iPad

Once you've got the free Facebook app installed, you're ready to upload a video (or photo, the process is the same for both).

Launch the Facebook app from your iPad homescreen.

Sign in to your Facebook account if you haven't already done so.

Along the top under the main navigation bar you'll see an icon that says Photo. Tap on it.

You'll now have the option to either take a new video or select one from your library.

We will choose to select one from our library. You can, of course, choose to take one instead.

Navigate through your photos and videos to select the one you'd like to upload and select it.

You can now add a description to the photo and change a few settings before posting. You don't have to include the following information if you don't want to. If you don't want to change settings, just tap Post in the upper right hand corner.

If you'd like to tag someone in your photo, click the icon with a person on the left and start typing their name. When they pop up, just tap their name.

Tap the second icon to add a location to your photo. Tap the location to include it.

Tap the little gear in the right bottom corner to adjust what people or lists can view your media.

Once you're done setting everything the way you'd like, just tap Post and you're done!

How to edit your videos before uploading

If you want to edit, add titles or transitions, or otherwise make your videos even more fantastic before uploading, you can do that right on your iPad with either Apple's iMovie or Avid Studio.

The folks at Timeflies have made a unique tribute to the late Steve Jobs for one of their Tuesday songs.

All of this was shot on an iPad 2 and edited using iMovie, recorded, mixed, and mastered on an iMac. The beat was made using samples from OSX and iOS - everything on a Tuesday.

There are videos from iOS developers such as Matt Comi (The Incident), James Cuda (Procreate), Marc Edwards (Sideways, Consume) and other leading developers, who tell their story of planning, developing and successfully selling their iOS apps. All of them are full time indie iOS developers, who make a living off the App Store. It's a goldmine of info for those wanting to become indie iOS devs!

Check them out via the link below. And while I can't put my finger on it, that Marc Edwards chap seems awfully familiar...

How do you watch videos on your iPhone? When the original iPhone launched -- 4 years ago today! -- it came with an iPod app that could play iTunes/H.264 MP4 movies and video podcasts, and a last minute YouTube app addition for online videos. Fast forward to today and iOS 5 is set to break the iPod app in two, Videos and Music just like iPod touch and iPad, YouTube can be played in Safari and embedded web views via Google's web app, and a host of other sites and services now make apps and web apps as well.

There's Netflix and Hulu, ABC and Global, and BBC and MLB, HBO and Comcast, Ustream and Air Video, and a ton of others.

In addition, since iPhone 3GS, you can now shoot your own videos and watch them in the Camera or Photos app, even Messages and email if other people's videos are sent your way. And now there's the iPad with a big, beautiful 9.7-inch screen to enjoy your videos on as well... or even beam them to your Apple TV via AirPlay.

So with so many video options on iPhone and iPad, what do you find yourself using the most?

iOS 5's new Music app -- that's right, iPod.app on iPhone is dead, long live Music and Video apps like iPad! -- has a nice new info popup feature that makes it much easier to make sure you pick just exactly the track you want to play.

On previous versions of iOS, long names were cut off. That meant, for example, if you wanted to find one of a dozen or more chapters in an audio book, it was a guessing game. (Tap. No, not 9-16. Tap. No, not 20-22. Where's 25, dagnabit!) Now you just tap and hold and the full information pops up, making it easy to pick the right one.

It works for most fields, track name, artist name, album name, etc. Again, a small addition but a helpful one.

[Thanks A!]

Firemint's Real Racing 2 for iPhone just went live in the App Store. With 30 licensed cars, 15 person online multiplayer, career mode, and other console quality features it's another huge leap forward for iPhone gaming. But what if -- like me -- you don't drive especially well? What if you need a little inside help, some expert advice on how to beat the game? (And your friends!)

Worry not, Firemint Founder and CEO Rob Murray, Real Racing 2 Producer Chris Nicoll, and Firemint Communications Manager Alex Peters were kind enough to sit down for an interview with us and dish all their secrets. (Okay, maybe not all, but enough tips and tricks to give you an edge!)

This is just a taste mind you. The full interview will be included with our iPhone Live #130 podcast, available later today right here on the blog and via iTunes. Subscribe already!

We have to say we're pretty excited about the streaming video possibilities on the iPad. So excited, in fact, that the YouTube app feels pretty much like old hat. Jeremy already took a quick look at Netflix on the iPad and the verdict is that it works and the magic of simply having Netflix streaming on an iPad does much to overcome the fact that what you essentially have here is an app made of up Netflix's webpage.

ABC Video, however, is much more elegant and is a nicer iPad app. You get a set of tabs at the bottom for viewing video, your video history, and even a schedule of ABC shows. The video looks crisp to my eyes, but I'm especially impressed at how well the app saves my place on the various shows I've watched.

A quick video comparison of ABC, Netflix, and the default Videos app, along with a gallery of ABC and Netflix, are after the break!

CNNMoney.com News, Stocks, and Video [free - iTunes link] for iPhone (and iPod touch) is the latest big name entrant into the App Store financial news and media space. Leveraging their brand and resources, it looks like CNNMoney.com's mobile site while working like an iPhone app. iPhone-likeness aficionados may take a few blinking moments to adjust, but it's a deliberate design decision that will no doubt appeal to the massive user-base of CNN.com's existing web services.

TiPb had a chance to test drive CNNMoney, and from a pure content standpoint it's impressive. When you first launch, you're greeted with the News dashboard. At the very top is a rotating stock-ticker, then a sampling of latest news, stocks, videos, etc. Users can easily check or uncheck specific content options, and drag them around to re-sequence them in whatever order they prefer. (I immediately put technology news at the top).

The content itself isn't merely a feed. In an effort to give mobile users the best experience possible, both statistical measures like popularity and hand-picked curation on the part of CNN Money's editors determine which stories and in what order they're made available to the iPhone app. Also, stories loaded into the app are cached locally in case you need to go offline (i.e. on an airplane).

The free app is supported by advertising, but when there is no appropriate or available ad, rather than filler or "house ads", CNN Money cuts users a much-appreciated break and removes the ad space completely.

My Stocks is pre-populated with a few high profile favorites but can be easily customized. Tapping a stock brings up a details and graph view. As is typical with online stock reporting, quotes are delayed roughly 15 min. Once you've viewed a stock quote, a new section pops up on your dashboard News tab called Last 3 Quotes, and as the title indicates, it keeps track of your most recently views stocks.

Videos shows thumbnails and a brief description of the story. CNN Money typically produces over a dozen unique video segments a day, and they load quickly and look good on the iPhone.

The Add/Remove tab lets you do the content re-arrangement mentioned previously.

It should be noted that while CNN Money is compatible with iPhone 3.0, and the system-wide Copy functionality works fine, it doesn't yet support push notification alerts, or automatic HTTP video stream optimization. Hopefully we'll see these in an update. Along with a good James Earl Jones rendition of "This is CNN".

Screenshots after the break...
