What you need to know

  • Another report says Apple is bringing OLED to the 10.9-inch iPad in 2022.
  • It also believes that OLED will come to the iPad Pro in 2023.

Another report is jumping on the rumor that Apple will bring OLED to the 10.9-inch iPad.

A new report from Display Supply Chain Consultants says that Apple will bring an AMOLED display to the 10.9-inch iPad next year.

Touch Bars continue to be the #3 application with a 18% unit share and 1.2% revenue share in Q1'21. We expect Touch Bars to be exceeded by tablets when Apple starts the adoption of the 10.9" AMOLED iPad. Further, our sources suggest that Apple may cancel the Touch Bar in the future.

Today's report lines up with an earlier one from The Elec that also says Apple will bring an OLED screen to a 10.9-inch iPad in 2022. The report says that Apple will then expand OLED to the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in 2023.

Apple will launch two new models of iPads that use OLED panels in 2023, TheElec has learned.Cupertino will launch its first ever OLED iPad in 2022. The tablet will sport a 10.86-inch OLED screen. Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of the OLED panels. The following year, in 2023, Apple is planning to launch an 11-inch OLED iPad and a 12.9-inch OLED iPad.

The only iPad with a 10.9-inch display is currently the iPad Air, so this is presumably the iPad that each report is talking about. The only other reasonable option would be a new base model iPad, but that would also require a huge redesign of the current model. It's much more likely that this upgrade is coming to the iPad Air.
