Facebook is giving you more control over your News Feed

Facebook has announced that it will give users greater control over what they see in their News Feed. The new options allow you to determine what kind of News Feed items are most important to you, such as which friends and pages you see first. You will also be able to find new pages easily, and quickly unfollow people and pages to stop seeing their posts.

From Facebook:

With an updated design of the tools we previously launched, you can now see a list of the top people, Pages and groups that you've seen in your News Feed over the past week, and choose to unfollow any friend, Page or group if you don't want to see their updates. You can also see who you've unfollowed in the past and choose to re-follow them at any time.

These new controls are rolling out to all iPhone and iPad users now, and will come to Android over the coming weeks.

  • And yet they still refuse to bring back the ability to default to arranging posts by most recent first, which is what most people want. Ridiculous!
  • OMFG im so sick of hearing about this ... lol its 2 clicks ... how lazy have people gotten that 2 clicks is the end of the world
  • 2 clicks every single time you want to do it. It's not something you should have to do.
  • oh no 2 clicks every time OH NO !!
  • 0 clicks is better than 2 clicks. What is your argument against that?
  • People haven't gotten lazy. Facebook deliberately took away a feature that most people used and wanted, and they refuse to bring it back. People are pissed, and, IMHO, rightly so. I've started using Friendly+, which allows this. It also has the advantage of removing all those stupid sponsored posts, which were, last time I saw them, mostly ads for shady apps.
  • This!!! Why they won't leave "Most Recent" as default, I have no idea. Sent from the iMore App
  • Agreed, I want my most recent every time I open the app. Sent from the iMore App
  • Will this trump whatever you have toggled in News Feed (recent/popular)? I assume this would only be for new/unread posts..... Also, regarding how FB handles news feed.... I've made peace with how they do, but I wish FB would take a look at how Tweetbot handles things for Twitter. THAT is how it should be done!
  • 2 clicks too many. Most people want Most Recent so why not just put it back? Sent from the iMore App

  • Are they adding a filter for "No kid/baby Pics", because that's what Facebook really needs.
  • Facebook is rubbish in letting users select or favourite content in the News Feed. So many times I've tried to make it stop showing me items fron unwanted sources (that friends shared or commented or liked) and it never ever works. Even reporting the source doesn't solve the problem (and you can't block pages bizarrely).
I don't know why this is so difficult for them to get right.
Also their unfollow feature only works in the news feed, not in groups....
