Taking a picture with the built-in Camera app is easy as pie. But, did you know that Siri can help get things started? The digital assistant can even help you take a Selfie (for reals this time). All you have to do is know what to ask.
How to take a picture
You can ask Siri to open the Camera app to one of the three available photo options.
- Press and hold the Home button on your iPhone or iPad to launch Siri or say, "Hey Siri."
- Say, Take a picture, Take a square picture, or Take a panoramic picture. The Camera app will open to the setting you asked for.
- Take a picture.
How to take a video
You can ask Siri to open the Camera app to one of the three available video options.
- Press and hold the Home button on your iPhone or iPad to launch Siri or say, "Hey Siri."
- Say, Take a video, Take a slow motion video, or Take a Time-Lapse video. The Camera app will open to the setting you asked for.
- Record a video.
How to take a selfie
As of iOS 10, Siri will actually open the front-facing camera so you can take a Selfie.
- Press and hold the Home button on your iPhone or iPad to launch Siri or say, "Hey Siri."
- Say, Take a selfie. The Camera app will open to the front FaceTime camera.
- Record a video or take a photo of your beautiful, smiling face.
What Siri can't do with the Camera app
There are a couple of things your Camera app can do that Siri has not yet figured out, like trigger the flash, enable Live Photos, set a timer, or turn on HDR photos. Siri also can't turn on Live Filters, lock AutoFocus, zoom in, turn the viewfinder grid on or off, or change the video quality. But hey, it's a start.
