patrick, a great solution for you would be http://iphone.hyperoffice.com. it lets you retain your email ID, or set up a new one with your extension PLUS giving you all mobileme benefits – synching of mail, contacts, calendars et all across PC, Mac and mobile. theyve got cool extra features as well – you can even share info with others (contacts, calendars, tasks) and also view and share document from your iPhone.

i would love to be able to take advantage of the mobileme but i dont think its in the cards with my current cell phone allowance which i set for myself. damn you for charging more money… but i understadn why you do.

I have .mac, but i hopefully will get a family pack of mobile me (if apple allows) for my wife and myself, for our iphones and macbooks.

Why the heck won't Apple let people let their own domain name? I own a small business and would love to use something like MobileMe for me and my wife. We are co-owners of a growing business. Enterprise Exchange accounts seem like overkill to us. The Calendar, contacts and iDisk and maybe the photo feature would be helpful but we definitely don't need a me.com e-mail address. I think most people out there have an e-mail address they already use through their small business, church, organization or just their own domain they chose to use instead of being restricted to their ISP e-mail address (which I never use).

If Apple would allow people to use their own domain name I would buy Mobile Me for my wife and myself in a second but because of the silly me.com e-mail address I just don't see myself getting it or would at least feel like I was wasting the e-mail feature I wouldn't use.
