I am a fan of iPod and iPhone audio. The sound of Sonos is just good. I just like the sound of tube amplifiers. I own several tube amps. Their voice are just warm. Even a low power amplifier can give power higher than expected.

We have been using Sonos in our home (ceiling speakers in each room, wired to a central closet with a Sonos 120 for each room). In order to benefit from the multi-room setup, we installed a Sonos Controller in each room. My kids now have the ipod touch and often control the zones with the ipod touch/iphone app. It does not have all the functionality of the Sonos controller but is good enough just to play music from itunes playlists or Rhapsody. Good thing that we have always refused to purchase DRM MP3s!

Like you, I'm neither a Sonos owner nor audiophile. I certainly don't need different music playing in different rooms. I just discovered the Airport Express. It beams my music from the iMac to a speaker(cheap) set in the living room. It was VERY easy to setup and cost significantly less than this. If you're not an audiophile, the Airport Express could be a better alternative.
