iPhone 3G S, Mophie Juice Pack, the Sims 3, TxtDrop, BeeJiveIM 3.0 – TiPb Picks of the Week

Every week a few of us from team TiPb, bloggers and forum crew alike, will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone (or iPod touch) related, they’re fair game.
So who’s on deck this week and what are our picks? Find out after the break!
Chad’s Pick: iPhone 3G S
The iPhone 3GS is my pick for the week! Though the outside may seem old, it is “all new” on the inside! Look for my post about what I specifically like about this model of iPhone, till then! [$199/$299 on subsidy - Apple link]
[Easy out! - Ed]
Chris’ Pick: iPhone 3G S
Is there anyone who wouldn’t pick the iPhone 3GS as the pick of the pick?
[Apparently not! - Ed]
James’ Pick: Mophie Juice Pack
As with most of us TiPBers, I use my iPhone for everything, which causes the battery to drain by noon. Enter the Juice Pack. I am able to recharge the battery in the go so I can still check the latest news from TiPB. A must for the heavy iPhone users out there!
[Let me guess, for the iPhone 3G S?! TiPb's iPhone Store actually carries Mophie products for ALL generations of iPhones. b'okay? - Ed]
Leanna’s Pick: The Sims 3
The Sims 3 on iPhone 3GS – I have always been a fan of The Sims and was disappointed when it didn’t meet my expectations on iPhone 3G because of lag and crashes. On iPhone 3GS, however, The Sims 3 is a great game and I have yet to experience any performance issues. I now control my sim (named affectionately after my dear husband) with smooth scrolling, quick load times, and zero lag thanks to iPhone 3GS! [$9.99 - iTunes link]
Matt’s Pick: TxtDrop
TxtDrop is a web-app that allows you to send text messages to anyone’s cell phone (it also supports international users; however, it is not an iPhone web-app). I was initially concerned about privacy, but after reading their Private Policy (and viewing other trust-website-lookups), it look safe. If you are worried about getting spammed you can add your phone number to their block call list. I thought this was a nice as I have never found a “truly” free text messaging as some of the apps that do this still cost to purchase them [Free- Web link]
Rene’s Pick: BeeJiveIM 3.0
I was worried when I tried some beta Push Notification apps. The alerts themselves were great, but the apps took a long time to load, login to their own servers, and fetch the original data. BeeJiveIM 3.0 helped assuage those worries. It’s quick — on the iPhone 3G thank you very much! — and when you add BeeJiveIM’s already great functionality with iPhone 3.0 push convenience… swoon
Apple, what’s taking so long to approve this?!

My favorite app lately is “Lose It!” great for counting calories !
Beejive 3 can’t be a favorite app. its’ not even out!
for that matter, beejive 2.1 works terribly under OS 3
What is taking Apple so long to approve some big name push apps?
It’s an older one, but I love Pocket Hunter. It is a fun “time killing” kinda game. It’s a duck hunt game where each round is 1 minute, so you get the idea… insanely fun. One of the two apps I’ve paid money for
If your a Family Guy fan you should check out the app they have in the store. Pretty cool & funny for $1.99. Also Paper Toss I downloaded just for kicks but it becomes addicting.
I’m also waiting for Beejive 3.0! What is taking apple so long?! They submitted it like 2 or 3 weeks ago! I think it may be that a lot of devs submitted their apps at once and Apple got overloaded. I check every 5 minutes to see if it’s out. But oh well.
I, too, have been religiously checking the app store for the beejive release. I’d also like to see a lot more apps approved that support push notifications. I’ve only got one right now and that was the 3.0 feature I was most looking forward to. Well, that and mms and I going to be waiting until perhaps August for that one. Not that I’m complaining, I feel like I got a brand new phone with this 3.0 update, I love it!
it will be beejive once they release it and cydia
I just saw a 1 next to the app app and for a second I thought it might be beejive, it was facebook
It would be nice if Apple would prioritize in situation like this when so many apps are being submitted at once. It’s possible that they do this already but you would think that something reputable and with a relatively long history of doing good work with the app store (BeeJive et al) could be moved through with only a quick glance at the app. There’s so much garbage in the app store, you would think that they would have some kind of system to get the useful apps in and up and running with PNS and 3.0 quickly so that people can start taking advantage of that.
Im dying to finally get my hands on the new Beejive.
when the hell is AIM going to update!? ugh.
when you keep be-jive running in the foreground does it smash you bandwidth ?
Here’s one I discovered…gethuman. It’s a database of how to avoid phonetrees for lots of major companies. So if you have to call, for instance, Bank of America, it gives you the phone number and tells you to keep pushing zeros until you get a human, whereas for Amazon it tells you to not say or do anything. And since the number is right there you can just press the call button to make a call. Very handy for getting directly to a real person instead of a phonetree. And it’s free.
Apple, what’s taking so long to approve this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!
Plus, Tweetie is waiting for over a week to be updated, and it’s a tiny update to address the Twitpocalypse (the ID of the tweets is now higher than a signed integer). This 3.0 release was better planned than the previous 2.0, but they still need to get some things better.
Zombieville! Wait for the 3.0 fix and that game is just pure awesomeness.
My pick’s: QuickPigeon and HeyWAY — my first apps that push me.
