First off, you have no idea what you are talking about, Sprints and Verizons CDMA is 3G. 3G is nothing more than 3rd generation wireless. Secondly, how will CDMA "cripple the phone too much"? I see a few misinformed folks posting ignorant comments, EVDO Rev-A (which is based on CDMA2000) is capable of simultaneous voice/data. Sprint will not enable it, due the fact the voice calls show up as data. Sprints billing system has no way of differentiating the voice from data when going over data. Sprints QChat (push to talk) uses voice over data. Last year Qualcom did a successful demonstration of simultaneous voice/data over EVDO Rev-A, to prove it is possible. EVDO Rev-O does not allow voice/data at the same time. Currently,during a call Sprint users can send and receive SMS, can receive email and since the Palm Pre is the first Sprint device with true MMS (uses SMS gateway), the Pre can send and receive MMS during a call. Lastly, Verizon will integrate EVDO Rev-B with their LTE, there will be areas without an LTE signal. CDMA is dead!!!

I surely did forget that CDMA does not allow simultaneous voice and data. And that would be a very big limitation for the iPhone.

I don't think you will ever see a CDMA variant. CDMA just can't do what GSM and 3G can do and it would cripple the phone too much.

I expect the next iPhone will have an LTE capable chipset (with backward compatibility to Edge and 3G/HSPDA).

So 1 in 6 people with iPhone OS are buying the 3G S.

Those are two disassociated facts, that don't even pertain to the same population of users.

1 Million 3Gs users ALL got version 3.0. They didn't upgrade. I'd love to see a breakdown of these by how many were first time iPhone users, how many were the 2G users, and how many were Rene Richie. (3G users eating their EFT penalty on un-expired contracts).

There have been 17-20 million iphones sold.

So far, ONLY 6 million of these have been upgraded. Less than 1/3rd.

This is in line with my expectations that there is a hard core of technoids that jump on every upgrade, and a much larger core of people who might get around to syncing their phones once every 6 months, if ever. They just use it as a phone.

Yeah, they just went with the largest carrier at the time I guess.

Well time will only tell, maybe next year will be the year of the iPhone on multiple carriers in the US

Only reason Android currently gets my undying love is because of the open source and widgets...I LOVE widgets. So much easier to handle things and gives it a higher level of customization.

But yeah...i know a quite a few that complain about AT&T and state they're only on it for the iPhone. Thats why I don't get why Apple is maintaining this exclusivity. I mean...it only helps AT&T...not Apple. It's actually holding Apple back. I see alot of iPhone users on T-Mobile network. And Verizon users clamoring over the iPhone.

If you give us T-Mobile users an iPhone with usable 3G and Verizon a CDMA variant.

I'll guarantee...simultaneous release on all carriers...same day...no less than 3 million sold in the weekend...

Could be possible a significant amount upgraded to the 3G S or just holding out til they can upgrade.

Or could just be they don't care about the added features, LOL

I know I've seen reports of some phones slowing down after they updated.

When I got in line, it reminded me of the first iPhone launch. There was only a few people online. I think next there will be another iPhone 3G frenzy.

Unless Apple intro's something that is truely brand new, I dont think I would upgrade because the 3G S is serving me really well.

Because lawd knows I will NEVER go back to AT&T. I'll take limited 3G for now over AT&T constant price haggles and I'm still upset how they had me pay $300 to cut my phone back on, only to have it cut completely off 2 days later. I'll never forgive them.

But yes, even as an Android enthusiasts, this is a TRULY amazing feat. Only if my dream of it being open source would come true...I'd have every iPhone sitting on my desk right about now, LMAO
