ok. so like i hav the iphone 3.0 and i hav the lastest version of iTunes. i clicked under the "summary" tab in itunes and like thers supposed to be an "update" button un the "version" thing but my itunes window wont expand anymore to let me see it. what should i do? help plz?

I just updated my iPhone and MMS is not working I have the most resent update, I reset the carrier settings, I powered it off and on numerous times and still nothing. I have the camera icon but no pictures will go through. I tried sending different sized pictures, I tried sending to other iPhone users, AT&T users & users on other networks and nothing seems to be working. Anyone know anything else I can try doing?

I had updated my iPhone 3G to version 3.1 and also got the mms update. It was working fine. Till 2 days ago when I jailbroke my iPhone on 3.1 and now whenever it tries to send the mms it fails and asking me to try to send again. But it never sends. Has anybody faced this problem after jailbreaking iPhone 3G on 3.1 ? If so how did you fixed it ?

Seems like if you do not install the update to the carrier file your text messaging will stop working. Starting early this morning texting stopped for me - send and receive. Installed the update today and the backlog of texts starting coming through. This is very bad idea on AT&T behalf... even Microsoft got the backwards compatibility thing down...

When i tried to instal the new mms update on my iphone 3g it didnt work. I dont know why because i fell asleep in the process of it updating. I do know that before i fell asleep it said it was backing up, it was doing that for a long time but it was still going, slowly but surley. when i woke up about 2 hours later my computer said it updated but my phone wasnt able to send mms messages, it didnt even show that it was updated. I was really looking forward to getting the update, is there stilla way that i can?

Well i can send picture messages no problem after the update, I haven't been able to receive one yet.

wooooot! it finally works! thanks for the suggestions guys, turns out all i needed to do was reset my phone lol. it takes a minute to send them (roughly 10x longer than a regular text) but deffinately worth it. its about time AT&T gets their sht together... top of the line phone and it couldnt send pics? my buddy has a $10 phone from walmart that could do that....thanks again all and AT&T. good luck to the rest of you!

Okay for those of you who are lucky enough to have yours working, cool. But for those who are still waiting for the messiah, I mean MMS and have been for like ever; you have to choices, either get rid of your piece of shit i Phone and get a windows based smart phone or if you just can't live with out your I phone and you have to have the ability of sending and receiving pic messages; go to MMS.ifind2.com and download the MMS apps along with tethering and stop stressing.

ifyou download the new update and you dont have the picture message option in texts, shut off you phone and restart it. it will be there.

the phones need to be restarted to take effect.

It doesn’t work for the 2G!!!! That’s ****! I’ve had phones that weren’t even close to the power & design of this phone and they managed to have MMS! I’m so tired of paying more than most people would ever pay for a cell phone & getting half the service! I’m not going back to a contract; if I knew how to get my phone on the BOOST network I would! I guess if anyone knows were I can get a 3Gs in the box for around 250; give me a holla!

And does anyone know of a good alternative to iTunes; I'm so tired of iTunes not loading my songs or having the right album pic. And how do I delete a unwanted song from my phone?!?

! ATTENTION !

I noticed that a few people were saying they were getting errors when trying to upgrade the carrier settings on a JAILBROKEN 3.0/3.01

The reason you may be getting this error (it was the reason I was getting the error at least), is that, if you have downloaded the custom AT&T carrier image off of Cydia, you need to remove it, respring your phone, then try again. You shouldn't encounter the error after that.

to get the update:

plug into itunes
click check for update
download and install new carrier settings
when download and installing are done~ leave phone connected to itunes and restart your phone via on/off switch like normal =)

Again, I am running a jailbroken phone, 3.0, and just upgraded the carrier to 5.5, and picture messaging works fine. I have sent and received pictures to/from verizon and at&t customers. I also am only paying for the 200 text messages a month plan, I do not have unlimited text. I am also not on a family plan.

Just did the update and nothing happened. I had to power down my phone and turn it back on before I was able to send or receive MMS. So far I've tested audio and pictures and both worked great.

So jailbroken 3gs 3.0.1 did the 5.5 carrier update through site provided and messaging has the camera present but when sending pics getting the red exclamation point. Any reason for this. have tried at least 7 8 different times to myself, other iphones and non at&t customers. All red exclamation points. Located in chicago. Any reason/help or word on this. Thanks to the guys who were trying to figure this out for jailbreaks earlier. the link posted was vital

Just got home from work downloaded the update from Itunes and rebooted....3 minutes later turned on the phone and there it was. Sent my pic MMS and it took a minute or so to finish sending but definitely went through...Now just need 3G in the area I live in.

Guys updating your carrier files , search the web for 5.2 instead of 5.5 , mms works the same and OMG it has tethering. Your phone does not have to be jailbroken either. i will never upgrade to 3.1 with all the problems.

Click that link that Chris gave me. It tells you how to update using the new carrier file. You have to type some stuff into your command menu, then manually add the file through iTunes. You may have forgotten to change the file format when you went to open the .ipcc file.

Why is that people think the iphone is behind by not doing MMS? When it's other phones that can do MMS, but are wwwaaaayyyyyy behind cause they cant do email!!!!! The first MMS was sent out in 2002. The first email in the mid 1960's!!!! Somebody please explain.

Awesome job, gentlemen. At least something was accomplished other than a neverending progress report of people who feel the need to post that they still don't have the new file, and are clicking refresh every 3 seconds for 3 hours straight, because they can't tell time.

I had to change the command to include "Program Files (X86)" rather than just "Program Files." Everything else went smoothly. It appears to have worked. I got the camera next to my new messages.

follow the directions, but don't use their carrier file. Use the 5.5 that you downloaded.

Noticed that the update took away my Cellular Data section of network settings. I had that exposed with 5.1 carrier file. no worries, everything works.
