Ustream Live Broadcaster for iPhone

UPDATE: Yes, Ustream Live Broadcast is iPhone 3G compatible, and you can use it to record video from the iPhone 3G (no Jailbreak for Cycorder required!). If you’re trying it out on a 3G, let us know how it works for you!

ORIGINAL: Ustream Live Broadcaster [Free - iTunes link] for iPhone has arrived, enabling users to point their iPhone cameras and instantly share whatever they’re looking at with internet viewers everywhere (terms of service appropriate, thankfully).

It’s been a long, slow road getting live video up-streaming onto the iPhone, with Ustream in specific releasing a limited viewer-only app first, then a record-now-upload-later app. Does this mean the gates are open for yet another previously unavailable category? We’ll see. And while we’re happy with video, we’re still waiting for VoIP over 3G as well.

Meanwhile, we’re bracing ourselves for the flood of “Come see me live” posts to flood our Twitter feeds. So just do us a favor and point that iPhone camera at something interesting, will ya?

Works great on my 3GS. Just confirmed that it works on my wifes 3G as well. She is now able to record video with sound locally…not to mention streaming over the internet.

  2. Anders says:

How is this different from knocking Live Video? Am I missing something?

  3. Shawn says:

Anders, Knocking Live Video is iPhone to iPhone. Ustream is iPhone to web.

  7. Jonathan says:

This works on my 3G! Doesn’t this violate some Apple API rule by enabling video on the 3G?

  8. ApDaGr8 says:

Nice App for mobile video uploads, finally after 18 months my iPhone can do something I expected the 3g to do on release.

  10. Drake says:

I am using it on my 3G for video. Not the best. It will suffice until June though. :)

  11. Luke W says:

Finally! Video recording for the iPhone 3G. Until the iPhone 4G comes out next year, this will serve me well. Thanks Ustream (and Apple for letting it through)

  12. Ivoryplum says:

It’s not video recording. It only uses the camera to stream. This doesn’t allow the iPhone 3G to record video for anyone that’s confused. Anyways…I did use the app. It works exactly as described!! This opens up huge opportunities for the iPhone.

  13. Ramon says:

Tried this app after being burned by Knocking Live app. Worked really well. Only problem is that it will kill your battery life. Dropped over 60% while shooting for 20 minutes or so.

  14. antonio says:

@ivoryplum you´re WRONG. You can save videos localy, to send to web later. So, it does in fact alow video recording on the 3G and 2G iphones.

  15. BlackHead says:

Thank you Antonio for your clarity! I had thought the same, that I couldn’t record video on my 3G phone…. UNTIL my friend had told me about this program and until I had read these HELPFUL comments! Ye!!

  16. Ivoryplum says:

Haha, okay. I take back what I said. Just realized that it actually does record it.

  17. eLi says:

Dude cannot wait to try i’m really exited wow I wonder what apple will do with this on the next iPhone or even a new commercial, like can your phone and your network do that? Well bot sure if you can do it with any other phone but it’s awsome to have it now on the iPhone this opens a door for alot more.

  18. Wuppy says:

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. The ustream recorder does NOT record video with the 3G.

  19. Jataspeathy says:
