Apple stops shipping iPhone 3G to AT&T stores and Walmart drops price of iPhone 3GS

With just two weeks to go before WWDC, Boy Genius Report is reporting that Apple has ceased shipments of the iPhone 3G to AT&T stores. Now throw in the fact that new orders for the device are not being accepted and it's a pretty good sign the iPhone 3G's days are numbered.

"Could this mean we might see the iPhone 3GS drop to $99 and make way for a new model? Or maybe the 3GS would disappear altogether? We're not sure, but we're about to find out."

It's a funny thing that BGR mentioned the price drop of the iPhone 3GS because as of today Walmart is dropping the price of the 16GB version to $97 with a two year service agreement. It appears as if the iPhone 3GS is about to replace the iPhone 3G as the budget iPhone. Keep an eye out for Apple to drop their price in two weeks...

Exactly! I just can't wait to get this new iPhone. I skipped on the 3GS for this. I honestly hope that it has the 1GHz A4 Chip, Double the RAM, Better Screen, Better Camera w/ Flash, Front Facing Cam, and all will be good! 12. snakes2003g says:

I am going to probably hold on to my 3gs if 4.0 runs well on it. Not so sure the next hardware release will be a knockout for 3gs owners as of yet

  13. Jt says:

^same here. The 3gs is real smooth I dont think ip4 has won me especially the ugly design!

  14. bre bre says:

  18. Edie says:

I for one, if the leaks are true, won't be picking up iPhone A4,(my own little iPhone prediction name.) It looks too squareish, doesn't look Apple like, and is just.. UGLY! In my opinion. Since the leaks, I've been craving the more modern, state of the art, 3GS ;D she's perrtty..

  19. Stephen says:

I agree with the post "I can't see using a 3g" I've used friends 3g phones and omg it's painful compared to the 3gs. Not trying to be rude but those who didn't feel the 3gs was worth it just didn't get to experience it enough.

  20. Gino from the Bronx says:

Life is too short to have skipped over the 3gs and stay with a 3g this whole time.

I commend you guys... I don't know how you did it. Especially with us customers getting the subsidary price every year to the day we bought our last phone.. $299 for 32gig 3gs was an awesome price.

  21. Gino from the Bronx says:

Come to think, I always sell my iPhone through eBay so the new phone is virtually free.

  22. Saving my 150 dollar best buy card for my upgrade. I am looking forward to the new phone but not the lines!

  23. Mike says:

So glad I skipped the 3GS as well. I wanted one, but it was not worth the price for just a speed update. Now I'm ready for a new "real" update to the iPhone!!!

  24. Jordan says:

I know what its gonna be called....MINE! Can't wait to get this bad boy in my hands, I sold my 3G the other day on ebay for $425 and now I'm using a Blackberry Bold (this thing kinda sucks) and my iPod touch.

Next month can't come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Dimwit says:

I would pay $100 for an UNLOCKED 3G iPhone to use for travel...Alongside my (soon to be, anyway) 4th gen iPhone.

  26. Dimwit says:

Forgot to add "new from Apple" to that unlocked 3g line.

  27. Mobile Virgin says:

I bought a 32GB 3 Gs for 150$ frpm att (Holiday special christmas weekend) so I gave away my 3G and the other day someone gave me a brand new iphone 3G. I have the ipad wifi version 16gb and i tether from my iphone not to.mention practically everywhere has free wifi nowadays, so what am I saying? Unless i can get the new iphone for 150$ or less Im staying put JB gives you all that you need.

  28. MIKE says:

I'll get the "iPhone 3GS Pro" for myself, give my 3GS to the wife, and the kids will get to play with her old 3G as an iPod touch. The 3GS Pro will wear a case so it doesn't matter to me what it looks like as long as it fits in my pocket.

  29. Hahahah says:

Why wait in lines. Get it delivered free launch day.

  30. Orion2021 says:

This is a tough one. I'm very happy with my 3GS. I think I would benefit from a Ipad more. I have the 3GS, Wife has a 3G and my 15 month old son plays games on my old 1st gen. We are pretty satisfied there. I have not seen anything with the new phone that blows the 3GS out of the water. I don't care what it looks like. I have an otterbox. Apple has sold me on the Ipad Im afraid. I'll wait till the next gen iPhone........maybe:)

  31. Eagleyesmith says:

If you have a 3GS I really don't think that upgrading to the new iPhone would really behove you. You get everything the in 4.0 OS Update besides what? A front facing camera, new design, and camera w/ flash. But if you have a 3G like me. Yea, its time to upgrade. Gotta make the move.

  32. Eric P says:

My beloved 3G died last week, ended up purchasing a Droid. The problem with the IPhone is the concept of single point of failure. Let me explain; the weekend prior to the death of my phone was my Daughter's college graduation, guess what, I lost all the pictures taken with taht phone, fortunately I did take my SLR. I rather have a phone with removable memory, and not feel stuck with fixed size memory. Just get a Droid and forget about it.

  33. Todd says:

Just because Walmart has the iphone 3gs listed for $97 dollars dosn't mean you will actually mean you can get one. I have been trying every Walmart within 50 miles of my home since this was announced about a week ago and none of them have any. I have tried to call and email walmart to see what stores have them and they continue to give me the run around. This in my opinion is just another bait and swtich tactic that no one will call them on. They do this constantly. I had a similar issue with a Vizio TV the had for sale at about $100 less then anyone else and I got the same run around about trying to purchase one for about 3 weeks and finally bestbuy meet the price (they will not do this with the iphone). When will the big brother step in and make own up to their ads.

  34. The layout is what really caught my eye, then the i looked at the writing and i think you did a very nice job. Good work:)
