History of iPhone: Apple reinvents the phone
Leading up to the iPhone 6 event we're updating and expanding our series on the history of the iPhone, starting with the original!
On January 9, 2007 the late Steve Jobs put sneaker to Macworld stage to give one of the most incredible keynote presentations of his life — a life filled with incredible keynotes — and in the history of consumer electronics. There, he said he would be introducing a wide-screen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough internet device. But it wasn't three products. It was one product. We got it. It was the iPhone.

iPhone #ALSIceBucketChallenge proves Samsung marketing clueless. Again.
Earlier today Samsung marketing thought it would be a good idea to have the Galaxy S5 take the #ALSIceBucketChallenge — which has succeeded in generating record donations for an incredibly worthy cause — and use it not only to advertise their phone, but to try to do it at the expense of their competition, including the iPhone. The problem obvious to anyone outside Samsung marketing — aside from the stupefying perversion of charity — is that the conditions under which they performed the challenge were pretty much fine for any of the competing phones they called out, including the iPhone. To prove it, I took 15 minutes and made the video above (after taking 45 min. to shake my head first).
I donated to ALS when I made my own video last week. I'm donating again today. I only hope Samsung marketing and everyone who made their ill-considered video is, at the very least, braking open their massive bank accounts to help out as well.

How to block and report iMessage spam to Apple
There's reportedly been a recent increase in iMessage spam. Since iMessage works like carrier SMS/MMS, and not like social networks where you have to request/accept contacts, anyone with your phone number or email address can send to you. Since there's a desktop iMessage for Mac, it's more convenient than SMS/MMS to send as well. And, well, some human beings simply suck. Fortunately, you can block any number or address that sends you spam, and you can report their iMessages straight to Apple. It takes a few steps, but rage makes them easy to get through!

Apple removes Secret from Brazil's App Store following court ruling
Apple has removed anonymous social network Secret from the Brazilian App Store, following a preliminary injunction by a court in the country. A Brazilian court ordered the app removed following a ruling that Secret was in violation of Brazil's free speech laws. While the removal from the store was part of the preliminary injunction, court has also asked Apple, along with Google and Microsoft, to remotely wipe the apps from user's phones.

How to find the owner of a lost or stolen iPhone
Every once in a while I have a reader ask me what they should do with a lost or stolen iPhone they've somehow come across. In most cases their biggest concern is finding the original owner, as it should be. Unfortunately that task sometimes proves to be a little tougher than some people imagine, especially if the owner has enabled a passcode lock. However, if the iPhone you have found is fully functional, we've got some tricks that can help you get in contact with the original owner faster than you may think!
