What's on Richard's Mac dock right now!

Unlike my iPhone and iPad which are used a lot for leisure purposes besides work, my Mac is predominantly work focused. It's where I spend most of my working days and so many of the apps that reside on my dock are those which I use the most. I'm not one for overloading my Mac dock, so the apps that are on there are genuinely the ones I need the most throughout the day. So, following on from other members of the iMore team, here's what's on my Mac dock and why.

How to share a Pages, Keynote, or Numbers file with iCloud

If you're using Pages, Keynote, or Numbers on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac you can easily share anything you create with iCloud. The best part about sharing documents in iCloud is that the person on the receiving end doesn't even need an iCloud account to collaborate and work on a file with you, just a web browser. Here's how to get started:

What would the Mac look like with Helvetica Neue as the new OS X system font?

OS X 10.10, code-named Syrah, us currently sprinting its way towards developer beta for WWDC 2014, which kicks off June 2. Syrah is rumored to be getting a Jony Ive-led interface refresh this year, like iOS 7 got last year. That makes a lot of sense, since part of the opportunity cost of iOS 7 getting all that attention was that there wasn't much left for OS X Mavericks. It shipped with a few rough edges, like stitched leather, shaved off but others, like green felt, remaining. 2014 should see a reversal of those fortunes, with iOS 8 getting refined but Syrah getting a more significant visual upgrade. But how far will it go?

iMore show 398: Naked buttons

Apologies for the delay on this episode folks. As you'll hear during the show, I dropped my Retina MacBook Pro and it's still in with Apple for repairs. Sadly, the feed generation software we use doesn't sync, and it's really painful setting it up on another machine (yeah, I have backups, but I don't have the machine back to restore those backups onto yet. Ugh.) I did manage to manually hack together the RSS for the audio, so YouTube and MP3 are currently available, and I'll work on MP4 next. Hopefully I'll get my rMBP back soon and next week will be nice and normal... Now, on with the show!

Rene and Peter talk about dropping MacBooks, updating the OS X 10.10 Syrah interface, what they'd like to see in a new Mac Mini, iOS 8 getting Shazam-powers, 3D on phones, Passbook, and more!

iPhone and iPad as amazing instances of applied cryptography

Following the publication of Apple's absolutely stellar iOS Security white paper in February, Steve Gibson of the TWiT network's Security Now! show spent three episodes going through it, providing extra explanation and context. Gibson was incredibly impressed by the iOS Security white paper, and by Apple's security implementation in general, calling it "amazing" many times over, especially the Apple A7 and its secure enclave. he also widely praised Apple's choices for the crypto they implemented, and especially how user- and privacy-focused their choices were.

Fund This: Game of Phones, a card game with a high-tech twist

Game of Phones is a great-looking card game in the home stretch of its Kickstarter campaign. It resembles Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples in that a judge plays a single challenge card, and decides which response from the other players he or she likes best.

Beats Music offers a new way to pay with in-app purchases

Beats Music has announced integration with the Apple digital Store, offering consumers a more convenient way to purchase a premium subscription, which was only possible outside of the app. This is a strong move for the company as Apple takes a cut for all the purchases made through the store, including new subscriptions to the Beats Music service within the iOS app.

auki for iPhone review: iOS 7 quick reply the way Apple should do it

auki for iPhone review: iOS 7 quick reply the way Apple should do it

auki is a jailbreak app for iPhone that provides quick-reply functionality for messages. That means that, with auki, you don't have to spend time switching to and from the Messages app. You can reply to and compose messages from anywhere on the iPhone, be it the Home screen or from inside another app or game. Anywhere. That might sound similar to other jailbreak apps like BiteSMS, but auki takes a different approach, and one I'd really like to see Apple consider for iOS 8.
