Proposed tax holiday would make it easier for Apple to bring foreign earnings home
Two U.S. senators have sponsored a bill that would make it easier for companies like Apple to bring the cash they are keeping overseas into the United States. Currently, U.S. companies that repatriate their foreign earnings are taxed at 35%. The new bill, sponsored by Senators Barbara Boxer and Rand Paul, is called the Invest in Transportation Act of 2015 and would see these companies taxed at a much lower rate

NSFW: Hey developers, paying for coverage is a scam
NSFW is a weekly op-ed column in which I talk about whatever's on my mind. Sometimes it'll have something to do with the technology we cover here on iMore; sometimes it'll be whatever pops into my head. Your questions, comments and observations are welcome.
It'll be no surprise to you to read that I'm pitched on new products all the time. Every day I get dozens of email solicitations from developers, marketing and PR people to cover new products for iMore. And many of them have variations on this:
"How much will it cost for our product to be written about on iMore?"
The answer is: Nothing. We don't take a dime to cover any product on iMore. In fact, even the suggestion that we would is horribly insulting to our sense of ethics. Unfortunately, not all web sites are so inclined.

Apple Pay review: 3 months later
Apple Pay — or Pay — launched in October of 2014 as part of iOS 8.1. It enabled the NFC-based tap-to-pay system in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and the online payment system in both iPhones 6 and the iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2. While it hasn't yet rolled out internationally, Apple Pay has expanded to more banks, retailers, and apps in the U.S. We went in-store with it at launch, but how's Apple Pay doing now, some three months later?

Jeff Williams and the continued success of Apple's ops team
Jeff Williams, senior vice president of operations at Apple, took over day-to-day leadership of the ops team following Tim Cook's transition from Chief Operating Officer (COO) to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Since then Apple has shipped a flabbergasting number of iPhones, a huge number of Macs and iPads, and started ramping up to ship the first batch of Apple Watches. To say Williams runs the best ops team in the business does him and them a disservice — No one else even comes close. That's no dount why he's getting some much-deserved attention following Apple's blow-out Q1 2015 results.

How to manage iCloud Drive syncing over cellular
If you store a lot of documents in iCloud Drive, and you're on a limited data plan, you may not want apps moving large files around unless you're on Wi-Fi. Cellular data use with iCloud Drive is nowhere nearly as intensive as streaming music or videos, but if you want to make sure not a bit goes by without your say so, you can manage it all in Settings.

Nine magnificent mail apps for iPhone
Apple has built Mail right into the iPhone, with universal inbox, multiple draft support, gesture actions, and more. Yet the App Store is home to many other mail apps as well, some focused on a particular service, others on workflows like "inbox zero". Which one you use depends as much on personality as feature set.
If you're still looking for a Mail app, check out the list we've compiled. And when you choose — or if you've already chosen — let us know which one you went with in the poll!

Adobe PaintCan for iPad transforms your photos into handpainted masterpieces
Adobe has added another iPad app to its growing library called PaintCan. Instead of providing finely detailed artistic tools, PaintCan allows amateurs and pros alike to add broad, artistic filters to photos. These brushstrokes are added selectively to areas you want. Parts of the image can remain as sharp and detailed as you like, while the rest around it can look like it's been handpainted.

How to quickly get directions to any address on your iPhone
Apple's taken a bunch of steps in the past few years to make it easier to find directions for any given address, including data detectors that intelligently make addresses tappable in Messages, Maps search suggestions in Safari, and more. But the system isn't perfect, and I often find myself executing far too many steps every time I want to get directions for a location — even more so if I want to use Google Maps.
Instead, I offer a simpler solution: Using Workflow, you can quickly get directions to any address from your clipboard. Friend didn't format their address in a way iOS can parse? Don't want to go through the hassle of copying and pasting an address from one place to your Maps app of choice, waiting for directions to load, and so on? This fixes all that.

iTunes Connect offline following login issues [Update: Back]
Update: iTunes Connect is now back online.
iTunes Connect, the portal Apple developers use to manage their apps, is currently offline. This follows several developers reporting login issues where they were presented with apps accounts not their own. That's obviously an incredibly serious problem, as evident by iTunes Connect being taken down.
Apple is no doubt aware of the issue and we suspect iTunes Connect will be back online when the login issues have been resolved.
