Did Google buying Nest make it a rage quit... or must get? [Poll]

What does Google buying Nest mean to you?

Earlier this week Google bought Nest for a stupefying $3.2 billion dollars, and reaction to the deal has been extreme to say the least. We saw some members of the tech community vow to rip their existing Nests from wall, stomp them into bits, and never do business with them again. We saw Apple's Phil Schiller unfollowing Tony Fadell. Yet we also saw our own Phil Nickinson and Kevin Michaluk raced out to buy Nests and get them installed. So what's to be made of all this?

Had an iPhone 5s since launch? Tell me how it's holding up for you!

Four months ago today many of us here at iMore were either waiting for our brand-new iPhone 5s to show up at our doors, or lining up to get our hands on it immediately. There was a gold rush, and the usual amount of online fuss. Most of us flat out loved the iPhone 5s, but over time it stopped being new and simply became our phone. So let me ask you this — four months later, how's your iPhone 5s (or iPhone 5c, if that's how you roll!) and iOS 7 holding up? What's making you happy, and what's making you crazy? What are your pain points, and what's pure pleasure?

So, what new tech did you get for the holidays?

Did Santa leave you some great new Apple gifts under the tree? Were there 8 days of tech for you earlier this year? Did you simply get caught up in - or reap the benefits of - the holiday sales? Yes, there are far more important things in the world, and there are all sorts of arguments against our increasingly materialistic culture, but we're a technology blog and an Apple-centric one at that, so we have but one focus, and one question for you today...

What gear to you give, and what gear to you receive these holidays?

What channels would you like to see added to Apple TV?

Over the past little while Apple has improved their Apple TV channel offerings quite a bit and while it seems it's not enough for folks to ditch their cable quite yet, as a product the Apple TV is more compelling than it ever has been especially when you consider the $99 price point. It's pretty much at the point now that if you're already buying your content on iTunes, it's a bit of a no brainer to pick up an Apple TV.

Which iPhone was the most ground-breaking?

Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. Those were the words spoken as Steve Jobs hit the stage and introduced the very first iPhone to the world after having spent two and a half years working on the device. Looking back at that keynote, I'm not so sure everyone at that time felt the same way about it but if they didn't then, the chances are good that they do now.

The iPhone as a product has arguably gone on to reshape not only the smartphone industry but the wireless industry as a whole and while the very first iPhone takes much of that credit for a lot of people, a recent thread in the iMore Forums asks which iPhone do you think broke the most ground for Apple? Was it really the very first iPhone that took it mainstream popularity or was it another iteration?

Do you regret getting a gold iPhone 5s?

Ahh, the gold iPhone 5s. We knew it was coming thanks to the many leaks ahead of its official announcement and while many folks had to have it from the get go, there was just as many folks out there who thought it was just a little too much. At launch, they ended up being only available in a pretty limited supply and a few folks went to some extremes to get their hands on one.

Here we are now, a few months after release and Apple has since ramped up production on the devices and there is an increasing amount of them available making it easier for those who want one to get their hands on one.

But what about those of you out there who got one from the start? As asked in the iMore Forums, does anyone actually regret picking up a gold iPhone 5s? Looking back, would you have rather picked the space grey or silver options?

Is having an Apple TV enough to cancel cable or satellite TV?

Over the past few years now there has been an ongoing rumor that Apple may be looking into getting into the TV business and with that there's been the obvious rumors of dealings with content companies and cable providers. That said though, there has been an increasing amount of cord cutting happening as well these days wherein people are killing off their cable and satellite packages and just simply going with broadband-only connections and getting all of their content online.

What do you like most about the Apple brand?

At this point it's no secret to many folks that Apple is one the most valuable brands in the world. Back in September, they took over the number one spot on Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report displacing Coca-Cola for the first time in 13 years and with each new release of a product, Apple's brand loyalty shows by way of the line ups outside of Apple stores across the world.

But what do you like most about the Apple brand? What causes you to get in those line ups and often wait hours to be among one of the first consumers out there to get your hands on their latest product? Is it the quality of the end product? Is it the top notch customer service? Ease of use and dependability?

Will Apple ever bring back the black MacBook?

While I don't often like to admit it, there once was a time when I was a hardcore Windows user. My desktop ran Windows, my laptop ran Windows and I often scoffed at Apple's offerings. It wasn't until 2006 when the black polycarbonate MacBook appeared that I began to look at Apple machines differently. Oh how I longed to have a matte black MacBook.

By the time I got around to actually being able to afford such a machine, Apple ended up breaking my heart. The black MacBook was discontinued in 2008, but to this day I still hope they bring them back in some way. Judging from some of the responses in the iMore Forums, I'm not alone in my desires here.
