Daily Tip: How to change the device name of your iPhone or iPad
Wondering how to change the device name of your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad? When you first set up your iOS device in iTunes you get to choose its name but that doesn't mean you can't change it later. In fact, it's simple and straightforward to do so, and we'll show you how, after the break!
Maybe you got a new iPhone and want to rename the old one. Maybe the iPad name you thought funny at first doesn't seem so funny now. Whatever the reason, you can easily change the device name in iTunes to anything you wish.
- Plug your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into iTunes via the USB dock cable
- Launch iTunes (if it doesn't launch automatically).
- Find your iOS device in the sidebar (it should show up once the connection is made).
- Click on the device name and it will become editable. (If it doesn't, make sure it has finished syncing first.)
- Type in the new device name.
- Click the Sync button at the bottom right.
- That's it!
Your device will now -- hopefully proudly! -- carry its new name.

I renamed mine "The Titanic"... Every time I plug it in it says "The Titanic is Syncing"

That's already all over the Internet. You're probably one in a million people who have names their IPod "Titanic." I'll admit, it's pretty funny though.

I use my real name, so in the event that my device is lost/stolen....
I use my email address for the same reason. Plus email gives a definite point of contact (e.g. which John Smith?)
I name all my devices random names just for the fun of it. For example, my iPhone is Steve.

Open iTunes. Go to STORE, then VIEW MY ACCOUNT. Log in with your password. Edit your NICKNAME.
Your NICKNAME is what is shown when you write a review in the App Store.

How do you change the iphone device name before it syncs in itunes? My daughter named her phone the same as mine and now when I plug either one it it thinks it is the same phone.

Ya im am experiencing the same problem, i can change the name of my phone in itunes but windows explorer and my computer display some other guys name; cuz i bought this phone second hand...

If you remove the iPhone or iPod from device manager in windows, the name is forgotten as well. Replug your device and voila, your new name is displayed.
