Multitasking on iOS now provides full on background processing for every app — and intelligently so! Most of the time you never have to even think about task management on an iPhone or iPad. But what happens when something goes wrong and you decide you want to kill an app and its processes? Easy! With the multitasking card view, you can close any app you want and, what's more, you can even close up to three apps at once!

How to close up to three apps at time on your iPhone or iPad

If your iPhone or iPad is getting hot or the battery is draining even when you're not doing anything intensive like a lot of downloading, syncing, or gaming, you may have a rogue process on your hands. That's when app killing can help. (Especially with apps like Facebook and Skype.)

  1. Double click the Home button to open the fast app switcher interface.
  2. Touch a card and flick up and away to close a single app.
  3. Touch up to three cards and flick up and away to close multiple apps.
