If I do this, is it difficult to flip back to my "home" (Canadian) app store account? Will my phone get confused?

The no card account option has always been available in various countries in order to facilitate free song promotions (Pepsi, Coke, etc). Consumers received a voucher or code for a free song. In order to use the voucher/code you needed an account. Since the contests/promotions were legally open to any consumer, they had to have a method of allowing non card holders to use participate. Simple as that.

skype does work in canada. u can download skype from it's website. it just lets you do person to person chat, not phone calls right?

Is this on the iPhone itself or in iTunes?

You need to use Mozilla browser as default IE7 nor IE8 support the free feature go figure

I just open Itunes and went to edit under Creditcard.. then pick none and hit done..

Well it is not working. I finished the whole process but confirmation email never came. It seems that they somehow check IP number and if it is not from US they do not send confirmation.

I just tried this. Based in the UK and got my ipad today. One step that I used that isn't shown is to make sure that after you log out of your international account set your itunes store to US (which is shown by the flag bottom left of the itunes store homescreen) just download the bookstore ok.

Does this only allow you to donwload free apps? what if i want to pay?

This cannot be done from the iTouch?....there is no none button on the Credit Card list...

This was a great work-around, I had 5 different accounts in 5 countries, and would purchase local music and content with gift cards. Unfortunately, this work-around appears to have now been removed with iTunes 10. Anyone found another? Does itunes work with pre-paid visa cards?

Ok. After much researching i found out how to do it:
-Open iTunes
-click on App Store tab in the upper middle section
-find a free app ...ANY free app, and try to download it.
-It will ask you to sign in, click the tab above it and create a new account
-once you fill out the necessary info like email and password and birthdate click Next
-then on the next page i believe it will give you the option for "non" on credit cards
- Click "none" and then fill out your name and address... if you don't feel comfortable putting in your real address and phone number just make it up.. thats what i did... then voila! they send you a confirmation email and you go to your email and open the mail that itunes sent you then click verify

i also suggest that maybe if you really would like to download an app that you just cant live without...and you just don't want to add a credit card to your account (or you don't own a creditcard) either go to an apple store close to you and purchase a $10 gift carder go online and buy a gift card from apple's site and apply that to your account.

okay on my iphone i followed the directions but when i choose which credit card THERE IS NO "NONE" CHOICE!!! i just want to download free apps and my parents dont trust putting the card number in :(

I like to make the people happy, i am here to help You!!!!
So today You will forget all this problems!
Here is the trick, i got the Non option it for every single time.
How?
First don't open any account...
The thing is works for all Stores:
App Store, iTunes Store, maybe (iBook store didn't try it)
1.So first go in the App Store( ForMac's) or iTunes for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.
2.Look for Your free app.
3.Push the knob install, open for You create new Apple ID
4.Creat new Apple ID
5.The Store doesn't matter Us, Uk etc, its works!!!
6.Next, agree with conditions
7.Your email, password, Your special question and answer, fill everything and click next
8.Now You see the None option!!!
