In Short

Apple's new iPad mini was announced on October 23, 2012. Apple calls it the iPad, just concentrated, but the specs are closer to the iPod touch 5 or iPad 2. With an Apple A5 processor, LTE 4G and DC-HSPA networking, and the new Lightning connector, that still made it the best small tablet on the planet when it was introduced. However, while it's still available, the state-of-the-art of small tablets is now the Retina iPad mini.

Since introducing the original iPad mini, Apple has enhanced the line, adding a number of great features to the smaller tablets. The second-generation introduced the Retina display, with the third-gen bringing Touch ID to the tablet. Most recently, Apple has announced the iPad mini 4, which launches with iOS 9 pre-installed.
