Nokia's new Lumia 820 and 920 go cheap to compete against iPhone on AT&T

Nokia and AT&T have announced that the new Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920 will be available for $49 and $99 respectively when they launch this Friday. That puts the more modest Lumia 820 smack in the middle of the free iPhone 4 and $99 iPhone 4S, and the flagship Lumia 920 at exactly the same price point as the iPhone 4S, Apple's year old phone, and fully $100 cheaper than the $299 price for Apple's flagship iPhone 5 with a similar 32GB of storage. Daniel Rubino from WPCentral has all your info:

AT&T announces Q3 2012 results, iPhone still dominate smartphone sales

AT&T has released their third quarter 2012 results, and out of 6.1 million smartphones sold, 4.7 million of those were iPhones, and 18% of those were for customers new to the network. That's especially interesting given that the iPhone 5 only launched at the tail end of the quarter.

AT&T announces record pre-orders for iPhone 5

AT&T has put out a rather barebones press release to say that, based on pre-orders, the iPhone 5 is their best selling iPhone ever. Since AT&T was the launch carrier for the original iPhone back in 2007, that includes all versions of the iPhone sold to date.

AT&T clearly doesn't want to keep me as a customer

Until now, AT&T has always made exceptions for early iPhone adopters by qualifying these customers for full upgrade prices before their contract technically allowed it. I took advantage of this when upgrading from the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS, from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4, and from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S. Not this year. Those glorious days are now over.

iPhone 5 reportedly does not support simultaneous voice and LTE data, or any at all on Verizon and Sprint

Yesterday after the Apple event, we received a tip saying the iPhone 5 wouldn't be able to do simultaneous voice and data over LTE, which mean Verizon and Sprint wouldn't be able to do voice and data at the same time at all, and AT&T and other GSM carriers would have to drop data down to HSPA in order to do it. It sounded strange to us, because almost every other LTE phone launched to date has been able to do simultaneous voice/data.

AT&T vs Verizon vs Sprint: Which iPhone 5 carrier should you choose?

If you're in the U.S. it's probably not so easy deciding which carrier is best for your iPhone 5 needs, AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. Price is always a huge factor to consider when choosing a carrier, but coverage should be just as, if not more, important when making a decision. Since the iPhone 5 supports LTE cellular technology, you're going to want to take a close look at which carriers offer the best LTE coverage in your area. Then there's the matter of simultaneous voice and data -- AT&T can do it over HSPA data, but Sprint and Verizon need Wi-Fi. And don't forget international roaming.

AT&T's FaceTime over cellular restriction could put them at odds with the FCC

AT&T's restriction of iOS 6 FaceTime over cellular to shared data plans might cause them to run afoul of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). AT&T won't be charging extra for FaceTime over cellular, but will be requiring what for many could be more expensive plans. Since AT&T doesn't do that with other video calling services, like Skype.

AT&T will require you to be on a Mobile Share plan to use FaceTime over cellular

iOS 6 will allow users to use FaceTime over the cellular network as opposed to just Wi-Fi. AT&T has released a statement saying they will not charge extra for the FaceTime over cellular feature but you'll need to be on one of their new Mobile Share plans in order to have access to it.
