iPad Tear Down and Benchmarks: battery, A4 chipset, RAM exposed!

iFixit has performed their traditional tear-down of new Apple gear, this time taking the iPad apart piece by gloriously crafted piece, and here's what they found:

The iPad's battery has 5.5x the capacity of the battery in the iPhone! The iPad actually has two batteries wired in parallel, for a total of 24.8 Watt-hours.

Apple to Replace Complete iPad for $99 if Battery Fails

Yes, you read the title correctly. According to Apple's web site, If your iPad battery fails Apple doesn't want to bother opening the device to replace it -- they would rather ship you a completely new (no word on whether it's a refurb?) iPad to replace the faulty one within a weeks time period. Of course there is a fee involved - $99, plus $6.95 shipping.

Is Your iPhone Battery Life 20% Less With Push Notification?

Back when Apple re-introduced Push Notification at the iPhone 3.0 Sneak Preview Event, Scott Forstall claimed that, unlike background multitasking that could cause an 80% drop in battery life, Push Notification would only cause a 20% drop. While some debated the truth (or truthiness) of his claims, it did set the expectation that users running Push Notification-enabled apps would see lower battery life, and gave an indicator of just how much less.
