First Direct, first UK banking app for iPhone, iPad that lets you carry out transactions on the go

Online UK bank First Direct has launched an iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad app that lets you view your statement but also carry out some simple transactions too. Other UK banking apps are limited to viewing your account statements which is a handy feature to have; First Direct has taken it a step further.

The app will allow you to view your balances and your last 20 transactions, make transfers between your accounts but most importantly, make payments to other personal accounts or organisations. To use the service you must already be a registered First Direct internet banking user and payments can only be made to those accounts that you have setup online already.

No iOS 4.3 love for iPhone 3G?

It looks like Apple isn't showing any iOS 4.3 love to the iPhone 3G. No formal announcement has been made about the lack of support but no official iOS 4.3 beta download has been made available either, not for iPhone 3G or the 2009 iPhone touch 2.

Would Apple really cut off the iPhone 3G with iOS 4.3 and not wait for iOS 5? Do you think iOS 4 performance issues are to blame?

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak confirmed

MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed via Twitter that he has managed to get an untethered jailbreak working for iOS 4.2.1 devices. Currently the only jailbreak available for iOS 4.2.1 involves tethering your device to a Mac or PC in the event that your device needs a reboot. This could be problematic if you are out and are away from your notebook or desktop machine.

ipt4g 4.2.1 untethered JB w/4.2b3 kernel ... Wastes no exploits, but upcoming @comex JB maybe better

In order to use this method, you must have had your SHSH blobs saved with Cydia or TinyUmbrella, as the exploit uses iOS 4.2 beta 3. No news on the release date of this yet, or Comex’s upcoming jailbreak, but we will let you know as soon as we find out.

The jailbreak will work with all iOS devices, the question is, do you want your 4.2.1 jailbreak right... or simply right now? Video after the break.

Air Video for iPhone, iPad updated with multitasking and retina display support

Air Video, a fantastic app that can transcode and stream video content from your Windows PC or Mac straight to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, has just been updated to include support for multitasking and Retina display.

Your Windows PC or Mac needs a small piece of software installed to communicate with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad but once setup you can stream native iOS video content (MP4 and M4V) instantly to your device (rather than having to sync it over first via iTunes). Air Video will convert non-supported video formats (AVI, MKV, etc) and either store them for later streaming or stream them on the fly so you can watch now rather than waiting for later.
