Untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak confirmed

MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed via Twitter that he has managed to get an untethered jailbreak working for iOS 4.2.1 devices. Currently the only jailbreak available for iOS 4.2.1 involves tethering your device to a Mac or PC in the event that your device needs a reboot. This could be problematic if you are out and are away from your notebook or desktop machine.

ipt4g 4.2.1 untethered JB w/4.2b3 kernel ... Wastes no exploits, but upcoming @comex JB maybe better

In order to use this method, you must have had your SHSH blobs saved with Cydia or TinyUmbrella, as the exploit uses iOS 4.2 beta 3. No news on the release date of this yet, or Comex’s upcoming jailbreak, but we will let you know as soon as we find out.

The jailbreak will work with all iOS devices, the question is, do you want your 4.2.1 jailbreak right... or simply right now? Video after the break.

Air Video for iPhone, iPad updated with multitasking and retina display support

Air Video, a fantastic app that can transcode and stream video content from your Windows PC or Mac straight to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, has just been updated to include support for multitasking and Retina display.

Your Windows PC or Mac needs a small piece of software installed to communicate with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad but once setup you can stream native iOS video content (MP4 and M4V) instantly to your device (rather than having to sync it over first via iTunes). Air Video will convert non-supported video formats (AVI, MKV, etc) and either store them for later streaming or stream them on the fly so you can watch now rather than waiting for later.

Keep your gloves on but still use your iOS device with GloveTips [video]

You can imagine the scenario, you are out in the freezing winter weather, your iPhone rings and you can’t answer it; you can if you remove your gloves or use your nose but that is not a great solution. Well GloveTips may have the answer.

GloveTips are small dime sized flexible disks that you mount on your gloves. Each disk has special thread stitched in the center that will interact with capacitive touchscreen devices when you wear your glove.

Yes you can already buy purpose made gloves that you can use with your iPhone. The main difference is that you can use these with your own gloves. The videos after the break show how well GloveTips appear to work and also how they are fitted to your gloves. Not sure how well GloveTips will hold up if your gloves get wet or need washing.

GloveTips are available now at a price $19.99 for a pack of 3. Can you see yourself using this solution? Let us know in the comments.

How's your iPhone 3G performing with iOS 4.2?

We tested out iPhone 3G on the original GM release of iOS 4.2 and performance seemed far better than iOS 4 though still not as snappy as iOS 3.1.3. Now that you've had your hands on it for a week we were wondering how it performed for you? If iOS 3.1.3 was great and iOS 4 was all but unusable, where does iOS 4.2 fit along the curve? Is it a breakthrough or still a deal breaker?

Vote up in the poll and leave your comments down below!
