MobileMe now closed, still time to quickly recover your data

As expected, Apple has now closed its MobileMe service and if you haven’t already retrieved any outstanding information stored on MobileMe, now is the time to get it out of there. Apple has already closed down the syncing service and the iDisk and MobileMe Gallery apps have now vanished from the App Store.

Apple releases Podcasts, an app to discover, subscribe and listen to podcasts

Apple has just launched their own podcast app, called simply Podcasts. It's available right now in the App Store and is a universal binary so has specific interfaces for both iPhone and iPod touch, and iPad. It's a great way to listen to all your favorite podcasts, including iMore's and all the Mobile Nations shows.

Gmail app updated to support Notification Center and more

Google has updated its Gmail app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to include integration with iOS 5's Notification Center; this allows Gmail notifications to show up as banners, alerts and lock screen options. Google claims that notifications show up five times faster than previous versions of the app.

Apple has made some minor changes to the layout of the App Store within iTunes; the same changes are reflected on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. With such a huge number of apps now available in the App Store finding what you are looking has gone from hit and miss to downright daunting. Apple has been rumored to be completely revamping its iTunes software but in the meantime, they're still tweaking what we have now.
